Warhammer Quest: Death Below Karak Azgal

The ambush by the bats is is too sudden for Dorgath to react. Carrow, who kept his bow trained to cover Dorgath, is able to shoot one of the bats down right away.

-A bat claws Dorgath, dealing 1 damage.
-A bat flies right at Dorgath, but overshoots him.
-A bat tears into Dorgath's neck, dealing 2 damage (7/15).
-A bat swoops down on Dorgath, but the attack is sloppy. The bat narrowly avoids decapitation.

Throg steps onto the bridge. Distracted by a swooping bat, he loses his balance and falls off. The rope saves him from plunging into the chasm and he pulls himself back up alongside Dorgath, alive but badly hurt from the ordeal (7/19).

-Throg loses an attack while recovering from his fall.
-Throg slices a bat in half.
-Throg's deathblow obliterates a giant rat.
-Throg's deathblow continues, mortally wounding another giant rat.
-A rat uses its deathleap attack on Throg, but Throg's armor absorbs the attack. Throg flings the rodent into the chasm.
-A rat deathleaps Throg something fierce. The chaos warrior takes 4 damage (3/19).
-A rat leaps at Throg, but Throg manages to deflect the attack with his axe.

-Dorgath rips a giant bat open.
-Dorgath's deathblow obliterates another bat.
-Dorgath kicks at a bat, but misses.
-Dorgath decapitates a bat.

While Kelgar is busy not deciding whether or not to cross the deathtrap of a bridge (or deciding much of anything: where is Melkor?), six orcs armed with swords charge in through the door the Warriors used to enter this room, slashing at Kelgar and Carrow.

-An orc slashes at Carrow, but the elf ducks beneath the blade.
-An orc swings at Carrow, but the elf parries the attack.
-An orc lands a huge blow on Carrow's head.
-The Elf Helm deflects the blow!
-An orc charges at Kelgar and accidentally trips, bumping into him. No one is hurt.
-An orc slashes at Kelgar, but the warrior-priest easily avoids the blow.
-An orc impales Kelgar on its sword, dealing 5 damage.
-Kelgar retaliates, but the orc jumps out of his reach.
-A bat dive-bombs Dorgath for 2 damage (6/15).

-A bat bites Dorgath for 2 damage (4/15).
-A bat swoops at Dorgath, but the dwarf avoids contact.
-A bat flies at Dorgath, but he manages to swat it away.
-A bat flies at Dorgath, but he manages to swat it away.

Throg will fight to the death, but he's not attempting to cross that bridge again.

So I posted the next round of combat yesterday and the board ate the post. It gave me a "Please enter a valid message" error and erased the whole thing. I didn't have time to rewrite it then, but I'll do a summary or something later today.

That's weird. Were you copying and pasting from Word or another document to here?

Nope, but I got the same error message later on a different thread and noticed that both times, I couldn't get single-spacing. The posts were automatically being double-spaced on all line breaks for no reason that I could discern. So I guess that's a warning sign that something's wrong...

Carrow heavily wounds an orc with a sword-strike to the chest, but the orcs get the better of him. He avoids one, but takes damage on a leg and on his stomach from the other two.

Throg barely survives the suicidal attacks of the rats, despite protection from his armor, but manages to kill all of them.

Kelgar is severely hurt after the orcs run him through again. He almost brings one of them down by countering its charge with a hammer to the face, but so far, all of the orcs remain standing.

Dorgath fares better against the bats, wiping out two of them and sustaining only minor damage.

Finally, Kelgar's Ring of Jade backfires on him, draining much of his already diminished vitality. He somehow manages not to collapse as his own artifact sucks the life from him.


The current state of things is that Dorgath and Carrow are both wounded, Throg and Kelgar are barely hanging on, there are three bats still attacking Dorgath (they seem to be ignoring Throg for now), and six orcs are engaged in combat with Carrow and Kelgar, two of them hurt and four of them still unharmed.

Dorgath will throw a Flash Powder across the bridge at the orcs and then continue to attack the bats.

-An orc lands a perfect hit on Carrow's head.
-The Elf Helm absorbs the blow!
-An orc lands a glancing blow on Kelgar's head, dealing 3 damage.
-An orc impales Kelgar on its sword (4/14).
-An orc strikes with its sword, but Kelgar blocks the attack with his hammer.

-Kelgar crushes an orc's body with his hammer, killing it in one hit.
-Kelgar bashes an orc's jaw.
-Kelgar's Ring of Command increases the strength of his attack.
-The orc is thrown backwards and tumbles into a corner, dead.
-Kelgar's Ring of Jade heals 2 of his Wounds and 2 of Carrow's Wounds.
-Kelgar collects 60 gold for his healing efforts! Praise Sigmar.

Is it just orcs left? And are they all on the other side of the bridge? If so, Throg will shout words of encouragement to the guys fighting the orcs.

Better yet, Throg will shout insults at the orcs, in hope that one might attempt to cross over to where he and Dorgath are.

Correct. The rats and bats are all dead. The only monsters left are four orcs.

Dorgath wishes he had enough gold to buy a missile weapon before he started as he throws another Flash Powder across the bridge to blind the orcs.

-Kelgar blesses himself with Healing Touch, restoring 7 Wounds.
-Dorgath throws Flash Powder across the bridge, stunning the monsters.
-Carrow slashes furiously, eviscerating an orc.
-Carrow's deathblow slices the belly of another orc.
-Carrow swings to finish the orc he just wounded, but accidentally collides with Kelgar, interrupting the blow. No one takes damage.
-Throg shouts insults at the orcs from across the bridge. The orcs manage to ignore him.
-The orc Carrow wounded retaliates, chopping at the elf's head. Carrow's helm absorbs some of the blow, but he still sustains 2 damage.
-An orc cuts Kelgar's chest, dealing 1 damage.
-An orc charges Kelgar and scores a direct hit, but Kelgar's armor protects him from damage.
-Kelgar swings his hammer, but the orc ducks beneath the blow.
-Kelgar makes another attempt. The orc, distracted by flash powder, fails to dodge this time and is killed instantly by the warrior-priest's smashing hammer.
-Kelgar's deathblow continues, crushing the spine of the next orc.
-Kelgar's deathblow continues, smacking into the wounded orc, knocking it down and out.
-Throg collects 200 gold.
-Dorgath collects 108 gold.
-Kelgar collects 192 gold.
-Carrow collects 160 gold.

The warriors seem to have cleared the room of monsters. But they are still split in two halves, one on each side of the chasm and none of them, especially Throg, are unscathed...

"You guys want to rest and heal up before joining us so we're all together when we start searching this statue and area over here?"

 

[Mooseman]

Yes..... healing is good. Kelgar you go first and I will watch, then I will heal and rest.

 

[Oversoul]

So it Dorgath searching while Kelgar crosses? And which is he searching first? The statue or the rest of the room?

 

[Spiderman]

Well, I think we're waiting until we're all healed up, and then Kelgar is crossing while everyone watches in case something comes through the south door while Carrow is alone. Then we'll all watch as Carrow crosses, then Dorgath will search the statue.

 

[Oversoul]

Kelgar blesses Carrow with healing before attempting to cross the bridge. Unfortunately, like Dorgath, Kelgar is unlucky, slipping on the bridge. Carrow darts across and saves Kelgar from plunging to his death. The two of them manage to make it across, but Kelgar sustains some burns in the process.

Once he sees that Kelgar and Carrow are safely across, Dorgath turns and examines the statue...
