The "Let's Design a Set Together" Game

Discussion in 'Home Made Cards' started by turgy22, Mar 22, 2006.

  1. Ransac CPA Trash Man

It's a nice idea. Kinda of like a "One Color against the rest of the world" feel.

The cards from that color would be able to synergized completely with merely itself. The way to level out this synergy is to make the Multi-Colored colors more powerful.

    Ransac, cpa trash man
  2. Limited Yes, but we won't care

And the other four colors could have intricate dependencies, like the a blue creature you can only play if you control a forest and so on. Hmmm.. that actually not a bad cycle..

    Wandering Giant 3R
    First Strike
Sacrifice ~ if you don't control a Plains
    3/3

    Wandering Serpent 5UU
Sacrifice ~ if you don't control a Forest
Whenever ~ becomes blocked, regenerate it.

And, to enforce not combining it with the 'Alone Color' (supposing for a moment, that it is Red)

1 T, Sacrifice a creature: ~ deals 1 damage to target creature you control and deals damage equal to sacrificed creature's power to 2 or more target creatures or players, divided any way you choose.
  6. Limited Yes, but we won't care

I like this one! It might be a bit too good, so perhaps it should only deal damage to players? (and I don't like the "or RFG". Isn't the graveyard trigger enough?)

Dealing 1 damage to a creature you control is a bit silly if you have to sacrifice a creature anyway (you can just ping the creature you are pitching). But I like the flavor of a flinging goblin! (Lill' Chuck)
    So:
"R,T, Sacrifice a creature: ~ deals damage equal to the sacrificed creature’s power divided as you choose among two or more target creatures and/or players"
  7. Ransac CPA Trash Man

Nah, you can't ping the target you are pinging since you'd have to sacrifice it as an activation cost before you choose targets. But I agree. The 1 damage to a creature you control is a silly. But also is the wording for the next sentence. Suppose you want to sacrifice a creature with power of 1. The ability states that you must divide the divide the damage amongst two or more creatures. Now, I know that all you have to do is divide it 1 and 0, but it's still a bit silly to me.

I like the Rock Thrower. I agree with getting rid of the RFG. Combo with Living Lands (wow).

R,T, Sacrifice a creature: ~ deals damage equal to the sacrificed creature’s power divided as you choose among two or more target creatures and/or players. ~ deals 1 damage to you.

The 2 targets force you to have 2 legal targets and the 1 damage to you, makes sacrificing a 1 power creature not so good. Don't want to make the card too useful or it will be abused.
  9. Limited Yes, but we won't care

    You can.

  10. Homestar Who invited this guy?

Hey guys, my first time posting on this thread so if I suggest something toally retarded or something just tell me im an idiot and its all good =D

Just something that came to mind was a new effect for some cards. By effect i mean like sunburst, transmute...You guys get it =P.

I don't know what to call or anything but here it is

(insert mechanic name)(insert number)-If you paid (selected number) or more differant colors of mana to play this spell, you may (insert effect).

Very very very broad but its somehting to work off if you guys think its a good idea.

And the (insert effect) could be like the same for everything or there can be a unique effect for each spell. Or you might even have differant effects on differant cards but have like a cycle o creatures that allow you to search for another creature in the cycle to your hand and if you have all the creatures in that cycle out in play you get a certain effect or something like that..

I don't know =P jus thought id give it a shot.
  11. Limited Yes, but we won't care

    I like! I like!
Maybe not for this card specifically, but changing cards to fit the landcast theme is a good idea..
    Wait a minute..
How about a 'removed from the game' theme? Cards that get bonusses if a certain type of land is in the removed from game zone? Or a creature that lets you hold more cards in your hand if it is removed from the game?

This could be concived as a broken card.

    Quaren-Master of Mutation
U/B U/B U/B U/B 2 (Wanted to take advantage of the new color casting theme)
    Legendary Shapeshifter

UB(Tap) Quaren-Master of Mutation Becomes the copy of target creature already in play

UU Quaren-Master of Mutation Gains one of the following abilities till the end of turn First Strike, Flying, Trample, Haste

BB Quaren-Master of Mutation Gets +1/+1 till the end of turn

    1/1

Like I said could be considered Broken, but the fact its a 1/1 and you have to pay double mana for its abilities and its a legend with a 6 casting cost.
  14. Mooseman Isengar Tussle

Maybe really break it and change the first ability to :
UB Quaren-Master of Mutation Becomes a copy of target creature until EOT.

I like, but especially the echo card. how about a way to remove all those cards to make these usable, and maybe make it a cycle, i'm thinking the invasion set of those 2 colored "voors", magnavor or something like that.

Well, time for me to contribute again.

Okay, here's the Black Cycle of my Evolution creatures.

    Black Cycle:
    ~BC1~
    2BB
During your upkeep, if ~BC1~ is in your graveyard, you may return it to play.
Whenever you have 4 or more creatures in your graveyard, you may remove ~BC1~ and all creatures in your graveyard from the game. If you do, search your library or hand for a ~BC2~ and put it into play.
    2/2

    ~BC2~
    4BB
During your upkeep, if ~BC2~ is in your graveyard and ~BC1~ has been removed from the game, you may return ~BC2 to play.
Whenever you have 8 or more creatures in your graveyard, you may remove ~BC2~ and all creatures in your graveyard from the game. If you do, search your library or hand for a ~BC3~ and put it into play.
    4/3

    ~BC3~
    6BB
If ~BC3~ is put into your graveyard from play, return it to play at the end of turn.
At the beginning of each upkeep and if a ~BC1~ and ~BC2~ have been removed from the game, you may return target creature from the “removed-from-game” zone into play.

I wanted to incorporate the graveyard in some way with the Evolution scheme, and Black is traditionally the best fit with this. I have the Blue and White Evolution cycles finished, but I want opinions on the other this and the Red cycle first.

Just for refresher, the red cycle was:

    Volatile Mugroth
    2RR
    Creature – Mugroth
    Sacrifice: Destroy target land
Whenever a land is put into any graveyard, you may sacrifice ~. If you do, search you library and hand for a card named Charging Mugroth and put it into play. If you do, shuffle your library.
    2/1

    Charging Mugroth
    4RR
    Creature - Mugroth
When Charging Mugroth comes into play, destroy target land
At the beginning of your upkeep, if any opponent has 5 or more land cards in his or her graveyard, you may sacrifice ~. If you do, you may search your library and hand for a card named Gigantical Mugroth and put it into play. If you do, shuffle your library.
    4/3

Gigantical Mugroth - Submitted by Ransac
    6RR
    Creature - Mugroth
    Trample
Whenever Gigantical Mugroth deals damage to an opponent, that opponent must sacrifice a land.

In addition to these, I was looking at the "Ragnarok" card that I suggested.

Ragnarok – Submitted by Ransac (name by mooseman)
    3WRB
    Sorcery
Destroy all lands in play. Target player loses life equal to the number of lands destroyed in this manner.

    New wording by mooseman:
Destroy all lands in play. Each player loses life equal to the number of lands they control that are destroyed in this manner.

Personally, I like the original wording. I think that having to fulfill three color requirements is enough of a drawback. But, perhaps increasing the casting cost to 4RWB would be more balanced?

Anyway, I was looking into making a cycle of cards like this as well. Taking an older Staple Sorcery (Such as Armageddon), allying it with the two enemy colors, and giving the spell an added ability.

    For Example:

    ~Blue Base Spell 1~
    4RUG
    Instant
Return all creatures to their owner’s hand. Then, put X 1/1 green/white ~creature~ tokens into play under your control, where X is equal to the number of creatures returned to their owner’s hand

This card is an enemy-allied version of version of Evacuation. Now, one thing I noticed when I came up with this card and reviewing Ragnarok was that the card seems to only emphasize ONE of the two enemy colors (Black life loss for Ragnarok and Green creature spawn for the new one). I like the tri-colored enemy concept, but am at a loss as how to justify the other color. Perhaps we could just overlook the justification. I don't know.

And while I'm at it, here's the Red version.

    ~Red Base Spell 1~
    XWRU
    Sorcery
~this~ cannot be countered or targeted by any spells or abilities.
~This~ deals X +1 damage divided any way you choose among any number of target creatures or players. Whenever a creature is sent to the graveyard in the same turn it was damaged by ~This~, remove it from the game.

The card being reinvented is Rolling Thunder/Disintegrate. And, as you can see, the enemy color being focused is blue.

ALSO, my brother, Prince RXI suggested a couple of keyword mechanics. The first seemed like a good well-rounded mechanic.

DEVOUT: ~this~ cannot be the target of spells or abilities controlled by players other than ~this~’s controller.

The second started off much differently than it ended. BUT, I suggested a drastic change to the concept, which gave an interesting twist to the way we may or not cast spells.

SELF-INFLICT: When you cast this spell, choose target player. That player controls this spell.

Okay, the name may need a little work and the mechanic seems "huh?" But here me out and here's an example:

    ~Card Name 5~
    2B
    Instant
    Self-Inflict
Target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn. Lose 2 Life.

The first thing you (as the caster) must determine is WHO get to control the spell. Next, the eventual controller can weaken a creature BUT then that same controller will lose the 2 life. The card will still head to the original caster's graveyard (OR maybe not?).

THINK ABOUT IT! Depending on how we decide to word this mechanic, you can take a player out of his/her game. Suppose your opponent has an Arcane Laboratory in play. During your turn, cast this card and it'll count towards your opponents "1 per turn". Or, pick any enchantment in which the ability activates whenever an opponent plays a spell.

I'll let you guys dwell on that. While I'm at this, here's a black enchantment that I came up with as well. Kinda like a drain-life for creatures.

    ~Black Enchantment 1~
    2BBB
    Enchantment
When ~Black Enchantment 1~ comes into play, you may pay X. Put X plague counters on ~Black Enchantment 1~
All creatures have –X/-X, where X is equal to the amount of plague counters on ~Black Enchantment 1~.

Even though I haven't contributed much recently, I have NOT been lazy on this.

    Why thank you.
We have the landcasting ability. Maybe something like the discarding in Odyssey.

    Void Pack
    2G
    2/2
Remove target card in your hand, ~ gets +1/+1 until EOT.
  18. Mooseman Isengar Tussle

I just think that in mutli-player games, this becomes very broken. And increasing the cost, just makes it undesirable to play at all.

Maybe something like: target player loses life equal to the most land put into any one GY. Or maybe: each opponent lose life equal to the number of put onto their GY.

But, these are just quick thoughts.

Might want to change this to target opponent, as you could target yourself, unless you were going for that.
  19. Ransac CPA Trash Man

Yeah, that was a point. It gives you the option of either you just casting the spell OR you giving it to your opponent.

Reason I didnt make it till end of tunr, because you tap the creater as well. If it was end of turn, then why tap the creature. I could do it so its till end of turn and only use this ability once a turn. That would be better.
