"Humph...well, let's form up then an' head on down that hallway..."

(It is. 1st level clerics don't get spells period, let alone healing, and there isn't a "negative" zone for HPs that Advanced/3rd ed. has. Once you're at 0, you're dead).

**Ahhh.... I wasn't aware of that... Perhaps we should rest up then, to get back those few HPs lost and regain our spells.**

Willing to go along with the group. Whatever the decision.

Cugel paused, weighing his options carefully, then spoke, "Well, now is as good a time as any to rest. It's not as though we're in any great rush. And I postulate that we are likely to encounter more such adversaries as the last party. We will want to be fully prepared for that eventuality, and wearing down the body and mind by trudging relentlessly through parts unknown is most certainly NOT being fully prepared."

"Aye, I agree there, young Cugel. Let's ask the Protectors for passage out an' take those bodies out with us so as to not arouse suspicions, dontcha know."

*Unless there are any objections we'll go out for a rest, being careful to avoid any wandering patrols while we're about it.*

** Did we see any mechanism to open the portcullis from this side? I mean, I'm assuming they can, but I don't recall seeing any levers on this side... we could store the bodies in the room where the skeleton was and use the lever to close the portcullis... the only "traces" we left behind would be the grain in the middle of the floor, and blood. we could always try to throw the bodies into the "red" zone... but I think we should keep the armor to sell... plate armor is expensive. I would definately wait until after the adventure to sell it though, we don't want to arouse suspicion if they have spies in town.**

Plate is expensive... and cumbersome... that's why I have grabbed bits and pieces of varying things, but haven't stuffed heaps into my backpack...

(Well - do we have to use our limited way "out" right now... why not just stay in one of the rooms and have turns keeping watch? allowing us to save the outs for another time.)

"That is another thought Si'Nat... It would be especially nice if we had funds to actually purchase helpful equipment (like healing potions). There is the risk of being discovered... What do you think of this, we make it look like there was a battle between the kobolds and the guards in the store room, and rest in the room where the skeleton was with the portcullis lowered down again by using the lever (hopefully)."

"We could also herd the rat in there.... and let him gnaw on their remains... I would say we should still take all their armor and cloaks, let them think the kobolds won and looted them (keeping their eq in the room where the rat was)."

"And then, we could also raid all their food and drink as well... that might weaken them - cutting off some of their food supply anyways."

** Ok, making it seem to be a battle of kobold vs. guards is a good idea.....but keep that cursed evil rat the hell away from me! **

*I'd prefer to save the outs for desperate situations too, but the impression I got from Spidey is that the ONLY safe way to rest and regain spells/HP's was to leave and come back. If I'm wrong, and it's worth a try, I say let's go with the plan Si'Nat and Patrick have cooked up, including herding the rat.

After all, I'd hate to have it on OUR side of the porticullis when we're trying to rest...;)*

(Leaving is the only sure and safe way for resting and healing. If you choose to rest in the palace, I roll for wandering monsters pretty frequently, and any fighting will disrupt that healing and regaining spells)

**OK, so it sounds like we leave... but I still want to set the "scene" as it were...**

*Let's do it that way then...after setting things up, we ask the Protectors to open the way for us, if it is their will...;)*

All right, you guys "set the scene" as you will and the Protectors open a path through the red field so you can rest un-interrupted and heal up and regain your spells. As you finish up and start putting away things and packing up, a man comes up to the group. He's reddish skinned with bright orange hair, small beard, long hair, and fairly muscular. He carries a large, two-handed sword over his left shoulder and wears a sort of black leather full body armor with a mis-matched skull helm.

The red skinned man walks up to the group with a look of discomfort on his face. His long, bushy hair flowing in the slight breeze gives him a larger than life sort of look.

He lays his left hand on the pommel of his sword... an ornament in the shape of a wolf's head, and speaks a little softly.

"... My name is Karnage... I was... sent to help you. The north wind is screaming and my elders wish to quiet it. I do not think you have much of a choice about it, but I am joining you. Get used to it."

**Yay^_^ I am finally back here!**

"The wind is "screaming", eh lad? You're a bit of an odd one, aren't ye? Of course, we're an odd sort of lot, dontcha know, so methinks you'll fit right in. Me name's Rondo Rockcrusher lad, and my people are of this land...I'd be pleased to have yer help in freeing 'em."

*We'll need to modify the default marching order now, I reckon. Let's put Karnage in between the mage and cleric for now in the single file order, and just ahead of them by himself in the 2 abreast order. Unless someone has another idea, that is...;)

Welcome back, Moon-Boy! :D*

No other ideas and that sounds good...

"Karnage huh?... I'm Si'Nat, nice to make your acquaintance... don't mind me at times... you'll know what I mean when it happens..."

(All right, you guys are rested and healed and have a new member to the party. Whatcha doing now? Also, I will be gone from 3/15 to 3/22 so there will be a slight pause in the game dueing that time although feel free to role-play amongst yourselves if you so desire :) )

*Okay...well, I reckon we form up and re-enter the castle, checking for traps and being very careful to avoid patrols. Our archers (myself included) have arrows nocked, and we're ready for battle as we make our way back to where we left off.*
