Yeah, the new flipping split cards are just way too silly. I hope at least a few will be useful, unlike the akki lava runner.

Did you catch that part in the article that said all rare creatures will be legendary? Yeah! Crazy, and pretty cool. This brings up Clone's value by a whole five or ten notches, I'd say.

Good thing I have six.

The Tentacled One
The common black spirit (forget the name) that makes the opponent lose life looks to be insane...

I believe that WoTC just created a global killer...

It's rather simple... this card, and...

False Cure...

I'm mentioning this first - so let's see if it makes waves elsewhere...
(I didn't see it on other sites)

here's the reason...

Life, Life Total
Life total is a sort of score. Each player starts the game with 20 life. Any increase in a player’s life total is considered to be gaining life. Any decrease in a player’s life total is considered to be losing life. A player whose life total drops to 0 or less loses. This is a state-based effect. See rule 420.5.

Exactly - I wonder if this slipped past WoTC, or they thought it not as feasible with the cost of it all...

train,

In order to make that work, you need to make your opponent gain life with this. Which means you need to have more life than they do when you cast it.

Since they are in the meantime trying to get your life total down....

I think False Cure is actually more of a protection against someone using this card on you.

Well - I didn't mean it for individual games... but more of the global killer it could be in Multiplayer... ;)

I do understand that it is conditional and takes a step-ladder of life in the game, but it could be very drastic with both played together....

No different than playing a big-bad Earthquake or Hurricane. I'd love to see that work, good skill-tester combo.

Gets around the instant-discard-draw step lock by making his flip mandatory on an opponent's empty hand, and then turns into a rack on a stick.

This card is soooo well designed. Hats off to WotC on this one, I've extremely impressed.

Comments regarding card below to due re-ordering of posts - Spidey

I find the idea interesting, but I think they're going to be extremely irritating in execution. I mean, you see your opponent study his hand intently, then he rotates one card and studies his hand intently some more. DEAD GIVE AWAY! Sure, the best players will have their cards memorized to the letter, but while the cards are still new, there's going to be a lot of people inadvertently telling their opponents what they've got in their hand.

I never really thought so. Reading sideways is tricky, but not nearly as difficult as reading upside-down.

Well, I assume the Prerelease will be the first time players will actually get their hands on the physical cards and that's supposed be a fun environment anyway, so it shouldn't be too big of a deal...

It's also WoTC's "proving grounds" for how the set is accepted... any negative response in the masses is supposedly "taken into consideration"

Personally I think it is easier to pull off the "upside-down" re-read in casual. I know I don't police myself quite strongly enough to make sure all the cards are facing in the same direction, so sometimes I do need to flip the cards a full 180* in my hand to right them anyway. If I saw my opponent do this, it likely wouldn't raise a red flag to me unless they keep on doing it.

In constructed play, it is unlikely that you will need to keep re-flipping it b/c you are far more likely to know exactly what the card does.

Beyond that, until the flip is triggered, you really only need to worry about one side of the card.

The Invasion split cards, IMO, are far more of a dead giveaway b/c they are the only time you'll ever need to hold your cards at a 90* angle.
