Maybe in a competative environment, but in casual it's not so hard. Plus, by 8 mana, you should have creature superiority :) An Astral Slide deck might be a good foil though.

I'm assuming he's thinking they'd only be legal for Type 1 and get around the current convention of having newly released cards/sets go into the appropriate formats (Standard and Extended, I guess)

If you need mana acceleration, there's good 'ol Sol Ring, Fellwar Stone, some artifacts that lower the cc of the colored spells (some in the Mirrodin block and apparently the expensive blue one from Tempest block).

Boy, am I going to have to split this off to the Issues forum? ;) With WOTC's thinking and classification on sets, I don't think that's the proper focus for a "beginner" set. And it's pretty much a moot point, as they said they're pretty much never going to reprint those cards. Why get worked...
