Depends what the actual numbers of the retention and recruiting goals are/were. Were they lower from previous years? Does the retention goal numbers include those people who can't leave due to the stop-gap measure or command given a couple of months ago?

I don't know about trying to surprise your opponent, but there's at least one blue counter card where if the spell is a summon/creature card successfully countered, you put the creature into play under your control... can't remember what it is offhand though, maybe from Ice Age or Alliances.

I could have split the thread if you waited :) Like I said there, I think there needs to be cheaper cc creatures (like 3cc for a 2/2 poison dude) and ramping up to big fatties with poison to help out a poison deck (along with your spell that adds poison counters).
