The Tentacled One
Another uneventful loss for this deck. I couldn't find a fifth land for either Jasmine Boreal or Phytohydra. I drew Taunting Elf, Shinen of Life's Roar, and Tempting Licid, so I could really force people to block, but that was about it.

Played this deck on Wednesday. Although I lost as usual, it was a funny game. This was the second actual game of Magic for one of the players, who brought a precon (he had prior experience with other trading card games). Since it was mentioned that this player was new and that a deck that was too powerful might be a bad experience for this player, I switched from my untested Grub deck to this one before the game.

My first thought was, "This deck is super-low power. It'll be fine."

And then my second thought was, "Oh, but this deck uses a lot of banding and some other old mechanics. The new player won't know any of those and they'll all require explanation."

But my third thought was, "It's OK, the new player is sitting across the table from a former tournament judge. She'll have to explain everything and that will save me the trouble. This is great."

That isn't why I was killed in the game. At least, I think it wasn't.

Played this deck last week. It was the victim of being the least understood quantity at the table, so some of my key permanents were targeted by opponents who should really have been dedicating more effort to dealing with the dominant deck at the table instead of mine. We all died to it, of course.

This week, I didn't go to an LGS, but played in a small group at a player's house. Might be doing that more often. Might have a "regular" pod going here. We'll see. Anyway, I actually played this deck twice, sort of. We were told there'd be five players showing up, so preparations were made to have four players fighting a "Horde deck" operated by a fifth player. But while waiting for the last guy to show up, we tried to get a regular game going. Ended up being just a 1v1. I was able to get unblocked attackers through against my opponent for a few turns, up until he landed No Mercy. That slowed me down enough for him to take over the game.

At the end of the night, I brought this deck out again in a multiplayer game. It evolved into a kind of 2v1 because one player's Doran deck was a lot stronger than the other two. I was able to use Circle of Protection: Green and multiple effects to turn attackers green in order to slow down the assault of the archenemy player, then reset the board with Winds of Rath. He attempted to rebuild, but faced considerable pressure from the other player's 5-color Domain deck (helmed by Kenrith, if I remember correctly). Eventually, he used his own abilities to boost incoming combat damage on himself as a way of committing suicide, leaving me alone against the Domain player. I was able to use Rancor and Green Scarab on my Force of Nature, with Circle of Protection: Green pulling double duty (protecting me from green attackers and attackers I turned green, while also preventing damage to my face by my own Force of Nature). Green Scarab made blocking the Force of Nature extremely difficult, so I was winning in combat for a while, but my opponent managed to hold on with lifegain from Kenrith.

I used Sylvan Paradise to let Force of Nature go through completely unblocked, taking my opponent down to 1 life. But I couldn't find one more point of damage. I passed the turn to him and he was able to activate Door to Nothingness, targeting me for the win. So close. Great game.
