(Maybe this whole doom elf thing is finally catching on with everyone!... Or maybe it was the word "man-beast")

** No one shows any love for the "man-beasts" :D

As you guys were turning a corner (and them from the other side), they're too close for missile weapons. And the corner prevents you from shooting the rear ranks. So it's melee combat for the front ranks!

Round 1 - Man-Beasts are surprised.

Rondo swipes with his axe and leaves a gaping wound in the side of the one facing him. Oddly, no blood comes gushing out.

(I can't remember who was next to him - I would have thought Kurik but I'll let Bertrem in on the action since he wants to attack)

Bertrem hits a glancing blow on his opponent with his mace.

Round 2 - Party gets initiative.

Anyone want to change what they're doing since they can't missile fire?

Take a step back and Turn them! (Since they did not bleed, I will make an attempt).

I'll draw a sword - but I guess I have to wait until I can get a shot at them...

(How many are there...)

It's your action instead of melee combat.

I was waiting to see if anyone else chimed in... I guess not. I'll post the results in a sec...

There's a lot of jostling around, but you think there's maybe a half dozen of them?

Round 2 - Party has initiative.

Bertrem stops swinging and holds his other hand with his holy symbol. "Begone, unclean creatures!" he shouts. Unfortunately, they pay him no heed.

Rondo, with a mighty swing, decapitates his foe. However, there are a couple behind it eager to take its place...

Bertrem and Rondo's foes don't seem to have weapons but attack with just their hands. Unsuccessfully, this time...

Round 3 - Creatures have initiative.

Bertrem just misses getting hit this time. Rondo easily blocks his foe.

Bertrem deals another crushing blow to his opponent, but it's still standing. Rondo swings but misses this time.

Round 4 - Creatures have initiative.

Bertrem dodges his opponent, but Rondo is clawed by one of the hands. He feels a momentary paralysis start to grip his limbs, but he shakes it off.

I'll see if anyone wants to do anything else in light of this info...

"Ugh...I think these things be ghouls," he says, to no one in particular, as he continues to hack and slash.

Continuing Round 4...

Cugel still can't get a clear shot because the fighting is around a corner and too much is in the way.

Rondo and Bertrem both miss.

Round 5 - Party has initiative.

Rondo scores a hit against his new opponent and shears off an arm. Again, no blood though, just bone and dead-looking muscle and tissue poking through.

Bertrem's mace just narrowly misses his opponent.

Rondo's deftly dodges his opponent's blows, but Bertrem can't avoid one claw from scratching his face. He feels his limbs stiffen and finds that he can no longer move.

Round 6 - Creatures have initiative.

Rondo again fends off his attacker.

Si'Nat steps up to take Bertrem's place and is clawed by a hand as he does so, but doesn't feel a thing.

You guys keep attacking hand to hand?

Righty-ho...

Rondo roars and swings his mighty battle-axe, taking down his opponent.
Si'Nat murmurs the words to a Sleep spell, but nothing seems to happen.

Round 7 - Creatures have initiative.

Rondo again is scratched but this time is unable to shake off the hardening feeling of his limbs. He stands motionless as Cugel steps past him to take his place.

Si'Nat is also clawed but is unaffected by the paralysis gripping his fellows.

Si'Nat slices a little chunk away from his opponent, but it's still standing.
Cugel slashes mightily with his sword and makes a solid hit, but it's still standing.

Round 8 - Creatures have initiative.

Si'Nat can't avoid a claw getting through and takes another scratch.
Cugel takes a claw and stiffens. Kurik steps up.

Si'Nat finally takes down his opponent.
Kurik finishes off what Cugel started.

There are only 2 creatures left.

Making some grunting and hissing noises, they scamper back the way they came.

Si'Nat

(Considering they have to turn and flee - I'm going to attempt to take them down with the bow... I take it they aren't moving very fast...)

"Not so fast boys!..."
