(I guess I can leave this one up to you guys - but the other was a thief seemingly...)

<Bertrem is thoroughly confused at this point> "Well, now, wouldn't you know that your story does not match your companions story one little bit. What are you trying to hide....."

(Just trying to see if maybe there is more info we can coerce out of her. I don't really thing she is lying)

"Well, I don't know what she told you and I'm not sure how I can tell you anything more. We're not trying to hide anything! If we can't join you, will you at least let us go? We won't bother you."

(grins...)

"And I can make sure it stays that way... This is your chance missy... I want to know it all - everything that brought you here, and everything you did here..."

(allows for answers...)

**Now, I guess we're playing good cop, bad cop.... I don't agree with the elf's methods... After she answers, I will put my hand on his bow to attempt to lower it and try to calm down this situation.**

"Look, we just thought there was a chance to pick up some 'items' from the palace, with everyone being distracted by the preparations for the celebration. We scouted it out, found a side entrance that was little-used enough that we could slip in, came across some pool, climbed some stairs, passed various rooms that were living quarters and storage rooms, found some kitchen where we were able to disguise ourselves as servants, passed a couple of guardrooms and jail, and found our way up here. Oddly though, our servant attire is missing... we definitely had it on before 'waking up'"

** Because this is taking place over several weeks as opposed to real time (and much longer than I expected even initially), consider the servant attire to be something the other female might have spoken (or might not have). But don't consider that part to be a discrepancy in their stories

(So she is a thief... humph... I don't mind lowering the bow - but seems she wasn't telling the whole truth the first time... funny how the elf's ways brought this out...)

** Which part is different? They should be roughly the same... remember, this is taking place over several weeks real-time, so I didn't remember exactly what I posted before. I thought it was roughly the same, maybe fleshed out more. If it IS different, it's unintentional - don't hold it against her :)

"Look, we just want to get out of here. I'm not sure who YOU guys are, but since you're not dressed as palace guards, I'm assuming you're here for another reason. We won't bother anyone or take anything, I promise"

(Is anyone else seeing how much sense I was making yet... especially since we would let her go, and she would be on her own to leave the palace - she would definitely take something...)

"Well, I am not sure if I should be the one to tell you this or not, but you slept for a while - over a fortnight."

**I can't recall exactly how many days we've spent outside recuperating, but I know it's been a while.**

"During that time, the castle was attacked and has been under some evil spell preventing most people from getting in or out. We are here trying to figure out what happened and restore the powers that should be in charge. So, you can imagine our distrust having found 2 thieves looting. As such, when your friend didn't cooperate, I'm sorry to inform you, she is no longer among the living."

**As far as Si' Nat was concerned this is a true statement - though I was not as positive of that.**

"I would like to show you what happened to the castle's true inhabitants." (Whisper to the closest person to at least go cover up her friend with a sheet so she doesn't have to see her). Then I lead her (Hands still bound - and with escort) to show her the mage who was turned to stone.

**Also, where is the closest window or whatnot to show her the red glow. I'd like her to see that as well, simply to verify my own statements.**

Si' Nat - (Hmmm... I don't know whether to snicker at that comment - how much stuff have we looted while here? You especially!)

She looks horrified and bursts out crying.

"Candela? Dead? You killed her? Whyyyyyy?!?!?!"

She sobs for a while before it subsides. Looking numb, she doesn't really respond to you escorting her to the statue or the windows. She glances at the statue and out the window almost with indifference and unrecogizably, but she does say in a small tone, "That red glow certainly wasn't there when we came in."

"Can I see the body of my friend?" She asks in a soft voice. She seems broken and lost.

"As I said, she was not being cooperative. I am sorry, but given the circumstances and earlier events we did not trust either of you. If you want to see her, you certainly may. It was a quick death, she did not suffer needlessly."

Take her to her friend. (Is that cat anywhere around? Is there anything I -as a mage, can do to identify it as something other than ordinairy?)

She stands weeping over the body.

** You don't see the cat anywhere, but looking under the bed, you can see the gleam of its eyes. You can't do anything definite to identify it, but as a mage, you surmise it's possible that it could be a familiar if it's not an ordinary pet. But again, you can't be sure as you're not high enough level to "check".

(I completely understand the urge to snicker... but I got to look out for the best of us...)

"Something doesn't seem right about your story now missy... You say the red glow wasn't there when you came in - but it has been there for quite a while - so your tale of what you all did here seems like a day... While the glow has been there much longer than that... Why would it be your stories don't seem to match the proper timeline?"

(Unless our my understanding is wayyyyy offff... this is what I get from the history for this adventure, and the stories they are telling us...)

** ugh... the discrepancy is my fault, not the girl's. I keep forgetting you guys kept exiting the dungeon so many times to rest - a bit more than "planned". Hence, either consider that the girl's explorations took more than a day or it was a VERY long sleep
