I think the "4 of whatever" rule really depends on what your mana curve is and how useful it is to your deck. In terms of counters, since Counterspell is 2cc, right in the middle of the mana curve, it's always good to have 4. Plus it doesn't have a drawback or conditions to the countering...

That looks WAY strong. After 3 turns you're able to look through your deck and pick out any card? I think either the cc should be upped or there should be a drawback of some sort or perhaps both. Oh, and probably "Shuffle your library afterwards" would be good to add in any case.

With regards to Apollo's advice, I would say not to place TOO much weight on the quote. The editors pick that line and it's probably (at least for me) one that tickles my fancy. :)
