I wasn't referring specifically to States decks, but the general impression that CoK has had on Standard. I agree with the sentiment that in Standard (and CoK block perhaps?) the five legendary lands that have no real drawbacks are one-ofs in decks of their colors, because there isn't a reason...

Plow Under is insane, and is especially painful when combined with green land destruction cards. Argothian Wurm is great with this sort of wickedness... Reversing two of their land drops and wasting two of their draws. It's so delightfully evil! :D

I think I've already presented the "why" of that... What might be unclear is that I do not believe that WotC, regardless of any other faults I might accuse them of, has done this. A card being underpowered yet having some use in Standard (but not in other formats) is not the same as the card...

I'm not sure why you'd be worried about Shared Fate, but that is pretty cool. Does someone out there actually use Shared Fate in a deck that doesn't die when it tries to get its combo (like the cute little Leveler/Shared Fate decks)?

Well, actually, I started in 1997, so I wasn't quite so scrubby by 2000 (although I still kinda was). It's more a familiarity with the cards from those sets for me. I don't know what a Mistform anything is, but I know all about the rebels and mercenaries. I can't speak for anyone else in this...
