A town crier yells, "Here Ye, Hear Ye... Killers on the loose..."

Welcome to London, circa 1749...

If you are interested in playing, please PM me with a short bio of yourself if interested... The game will commence this Thursday, with the first confirmed death of an unknown citizen...

Everyone is aware of the following excerpt from the Ancient Tome of Wolves and Bats...

1) Werewolves and Vampires: Supernatural beasts who cannot be stopped once transformed at night - no bonds will hold them, no human can stop them. Beasts know who the other members of their race are, and will work in conjunction with one another to achieve their goal.

2) Feeding: Each night, the beasts will feed on one person. If there are members of all 3 races(Human, Lycanthrope, and Vampire) there could be 3 victims a night (one from each race). (A hanged man is indeed a victim)

3) Conversion: Beasts may choose to convert a resident to their race, but only if they fed for 2 previous nights and only if I inform them at the onset of the game conversion is allowable.

4) Battle: If Beasts attack one another whether to feed or convert, (Vampires vs. Werewolves), the attacker wins. If they somehow opted to fight one another, both victims are killed - however the other transformed beasts identities are still unknown - they each only learn the numbers of the others race.

5) Investigator: Investigators are those folks who believe in the supernatural and study them in secret. I will appoint one or more player(s) to act as investigator at the onset of the game. The investigator may identify the race of one resident (player) each night through careful investigation.

6) False Prophet: There is also the obscure chance that an investigator is fallible in their research and will in fact be a "false prophet", unknown to them until they discover a mistake. (These are rare and will happen only in a large population - when another true investigator is also at work). Again, they research one resident a night.

7) Daylight: During the day, beasts are able to cover adequately as humans - no test can be proof one way or another - even to the investigator. The only clue which will be given will be the type of kill (werewolves leave little behind in their feeding while vampires merely remove the blood of the victim) as well as the number of beasts involved. This unfortunately for them is what leaves them vulnerable.

8) Killing a Beast: The only way to kill a supernatural beast is when they are not in their transformed state - usually done by hanging and/or a stake through the heart - upon death, they revert to their supernatural state for all to observe.

9) Silver Bullet: The only other way to kill a beast is with a silver bullet... No one knows how many if any bullets are available save the possessor of one who may or may not exist... It is the owner's choice how to utilize it - and is best kept a secret. It may pass on to someone else if unused...

10) Objective: The contest is to achieve the survival of your race (Human, Lycanthrope, or Vampires). Ignoring the fact that if all humans are extinguished, eventually your race will run out of food...

11) Non-Player Characters: The contest will begin with a benign non-player character dying at the onset of the game - preserving all players for at least one game day. All players will be identified. Other residents of the population may exist at the discretion of the storyteller used for storytelling; they neither offer any real insight, nor take place in any votes.

12) Game "Day": The game day will last at least one week at the storytellers discretion, offering the best opportunity for each player to be actively involved.

13) The Thirteenth Rule: The rest is up to the residents (players)... Have Fun!

The intent of these rules is to serve as a guideline... The picture is intentionally vague... the numbers of each are the sole discretion of the storyteller for each round.

I like the flavor and the diversity, but I'm afraid we don't have enough players to divide the game in groups of three...

Willing to try of course!

Oh, don't get me wrong... I don't expect to have enough players to do that either... but, these rules are for every game... it is supposed to be a "surprise", but I don't want any more confusing surprises like the silver bullet... and no, I didn't state explicitly that the bullet kills unfortunate investigators... but hopefully everyone understands that is a possibility... and is why I offer the choice if they hear a bump in the night... I'm not even promising there will be a silver bullet every game... I'm trying to devise a system for allocating numbers... I think that the 2 beasts for up to 10 players with 1 investigator works well... the silver bullet should probably be when there are more players... and I truly think you need to have at least 15 players to do a race war between the 3... losing 3 players a night would make for a quick game with too few players... (hanging, WW victim, Vamp Victim...) now, if some victims are conversions it would last longer... I've never done the White Wolf LARP thing, but I know someone who does (and is a storyteller) and I imagine they have rules/guidelines for how to assign them... Perhaps I'll consult him for ideas... I also don't want to monkey with the game too much... because it is fun just the way it was laid out originally... I just wanted to put a little spice/fear into the game... some things may never be included, but having to think about the possibility adds intrigue... I once pondered a game where every human thought they were a credible investigator, but only one truly was... I think that would get us in trouble though... even if there were only one beast... And I am not planning on assigning any numbers or roles until all requests are in...

First off, I'll start a fresh WW III thread for the game on Thursday...

Secondly, if you haven't sent me a bio and want to, you have 'til tomorrow otherwise I'll make up something for you... And also I'll pass out the secret lives people play on Thursday as well - once I know I have all my players... one unfortunate thing with this game is it is hard to come into it late, I was trying to think of a way to incorporate Sagerider back in since he was going to miss the first week of last round... but I couldn't think of any safe way to bring in a new character - the suspicion would be too great one way or the other...

Thirdly, if you haven't joined yet, there's still time - I will take people until Thursday AM but I'd really prefer them by Wednesday...

Finally, here's who's in so far as a recap...

DarthFerret - I am DarthFerret, and I run a small out of the way, run-of-the-mill, weapons and armory shoppe. I usually have a discount for my fellow townsfolk (as we all know each other and pay the same taxes, that outlanders do not) and can generally acquire any goods that a person may want in the metal-smithing industry. I am not a blacksmith myself, and the only real talent I have, aside from a bit of training to keep me from slicing my own foot off with a blade or so, is to be able to judge an objects value fairly acurately.

Mooseman - I am a humble tavern owner who retired to this village at the ripe old age of 56 from the city of Reveless, where I was a personal guard to merchants. I am a burly man of 6 feet, but am starting to get heavy around the middle. I am also a
quiet man who can handle weapons, but would rather meet problems with a hands on approach. A widower, who has a liking for the ladies.

Spiderman - I'm new in town, having recently arrived about a week ago. I'm trying to find my own farm - my family was too big and I wasn't interested in working for them or anyone else. I just managed to get a house or build one but still don't know anyone yet.

EricBess - I'm a traveller, new to town, with a somewhat mysterious past. Rumor has it that I've had dealings with werewolves in the past, but stories get rather murky when it comes to what sorts of dealings...

Orgg -

Zigathon - I'm Zigathon. Writer, poet, alcohol consumer.
In addition to writing a series of mystery novels involving a bumbling detective, I never turn down making a few extra bucks doing odd jobs around the community.

Oversoul - I am Oversoul, the carpenter (just like Jesus). I enjoy constructing various wooden structures although not nearly so much as I enjoy smashing things with my unnecessarily large hammer. But people only pay me for the former, so I make myself useful, more or less. I've been around for as long as anyone cares to remember.

Limited -

Melkor - Melkor is the town drunk. He used to own the local stables and was quite the businessman, had an interest in many local ventures. But after his wife ran away with one of the stablehands, he sold off all his assets and has been useing the proceeds to drink himself into oblivion ever since.

Sagerider - I am Sagerider, a shadowy figure who lurks in the streets. I make my living by "finding" lost things... making them get lost is the first step...

BigBlue - I am an accountant for a small mortgage firm... I work for Ebeneezer Scrooge.... ok, maybe not... but it won't much matter as I feel my life will end shortly, leaving no one to care for Tiny Tim...

Having read through these.... I always thought the gist of the game was to be as "normal" as possible to avoid persecution... but many of you are taking the opposite approach... :D

Hey, you could still choose or elect my as sheriff... maybe you old-timers don't trust each other or something and want the new guy who hasn't had time to form biases or feuds yet :)

I have to say one thing in retrospect... It was completely random how I passed out the roles last time... and it happened I believe after I'd given "day jobs" out also at random.... but it was ironic I thought that the investigator was a reporter... and the silver bullet was owned by the sheriff... I figured it was better though to let you folks come up with your own story... you're much better at describing what you'd want to be than I am.

OK, I believe I have all the players and their bios.... TomB has opted to stay out of this round... But if anyone else wants to join in, you still have time. Opening remarks and such will come out on the morrow.... in a new thread. I'm updating the list of bio's in the head of this thread today.
