tired of non-land permantents?

When I read this thread I was reminded about a very similar deck I played last week. With one noticable exeption, my version has an evil twist that lets the table sigh with frustration (I just love it when that happens).

Permanents Schmermanents.dec

lands 24
2 treetop village
2 fairy conclave
10 forest
10 island

creatures 24
4 wall of roots
4 yvimaya granger
4 Uktabi Orangutan
4 eternal witness
4 mystic snake
4 raven familiar

spells 12
4 hibernation
4 shifting sky
4 crystal shard

The concept is similar to the crystal witness deck that some tournament play. Eternal witness is just broken IMHO. Together with crystal shard you can keep on returning cards from your graveyard.

The goal is to make all non-land permanents green with shifting sky and bounce them all with hibernation (including shifting sky). Cast eternal witness to return the hibernation and repeat. Do this every turn and watch the frustration on the faces of your opponents :D

Winning is not easy as you only have utility creatures and no haste. But winning easy was not my intention. Wall of roots perhaps requires some explanation: it's early defense and accelerates your mana (you can also use it to cast hibernation during an opponents turn).

If anyone knows a good way to take out opponents during all the bouncing, please let me know.

Hmm vice, nasty! I like it. I'll test something like that. 1 black vice (it is restricted) can only target one opponent, but with all the bouncing, I can just drop it again and target the next player.

Viseling is the same thing as a black vise... only for 4 mana and it's kinda a creature and all that.

Yeah, I'd have said Viseling or Iron Maiden, since they can hit multiple opponent, but I wasn't sure if they would be as playable (you have to have more mana floating when you Hibernate in order to play them) so I just went with the generic "Vise-like."

Oooh oooh! Megrim!

"Let's see, you have 17 cards in your hand at the end of your turn...BUHBYE."

If black is involved, Warped Devotion might be fun, although not as productive as something like Megrim...

Too bad it says 'each player': I will lose most of my cards too, not exactly productive...

I'm going for black vise and cut one Uktabi Orangutan, maybe I'll cut them all for some other cards. I hate it when I can't play a 187 creature because it could only target a permanant I control myself (small odds with artifacts these days, but still).

Well, I did say that it would be fun but not productive as something like Megrim...

Killing everyone else in one shot is good, but killing literally everyone is pretty cool every once in a while...

True, true.

With this deck, however, I want to see the agony on my opponents faces when they slowly, but certain die to a sole black vise *evil grin*

Any suggestions for other cards (blue, green, artifact) I could play? If I drop the monkeys I have 3 slots left (I forgot crystal shard is an artifact too... )

Maybe Exploration or something to allow the deck to recover from Hibernation more quickly than your opponents...

lands are not returned :)

Hibernation (2U)
Card Type: Instant
Return all green permanents to their owners’ hands.

Shifting Sky (2U)
Enchantment
As Shifting Sky comes into play, choose a color.
All nonland permanents are the chosen color.

My apologies, the title of the thread should have been 'tired of non-land permanents'. Seems I created the misunderstanding myself :(

For now I replaced the sex monkeys with some cheap old school artifacts:

- 4 Uktabi Urangutan
+1 Ivory Tower (with all that bouncing this will net life, even later in the game)
+1 Black Vise (win condition)
+1 Meekstone (filler, probably something else is better)
+1 feldon's cane (decking as a second way to win..

Nah, I know what the cards are. But I meant that you might want some sort of acceleration for building up to the combo and recovering from it before your opponents do. Llanowar Elves/etc. would provide mana acceleration, but they have summoning sickness and all (although now that I think about it, Exploration usually needs more card-drawing stuff to be capitalized on). Of course, the deck doesn't really need a boost of that sort very badly. It's a possible option...

But now that you mention the bouncing lands thing, what about Sunder? It costs a lot, but it could be a painful blow in combination with Vise...

Yeah, sunder is really nasty. Using that means exploration is a must. Good idea. I don't own any of those cards, but it's good to know what to look out for when buying stuff to broaden my collection :)
