Rules question: If I block with a lifelink creature and take fatal damage in the attack, do I die before the lifelink kicks in or do I gain the life as the damage resolves?

Not that I'm an expert, but it seems from

119.3f Damage dealt by a source with lifelink causes that source's controller to gain that much life, in addition to the damage's other results.

That it's a static effect and thus is applied at the same time damage is dealt (so basically your second statement of you gain the life as the damage resolves). That's how I'm reading it...
