Overburden
Color=Blue
Type=Enchantment Cost=1U
Whenever a player puts a creature card into play, that player returns a land he or she controls to its owner's hand

Does Anyone have any ideas? This card seems like it could slow down Weenie decks.
I have some ideas, but I don't want to put a lot of thought into a useless idea, or if its already been done.

...how about some of my ideas? The good thing about Overburden is that it could be used in many different ways. I believe that it could be used to one's own advantage: not just to hurt your opponent for playing weenies.

Overburden should be used in LD or LD-like decks.
I think a good deck for Overburden is in a Rishadan deck with all those pirates. Combine it with Rhystic cards, and you should have something that is in the least annoying; I believe it is more than "annoying" though.

Overburden shouldn't hurt its controller that much, since if you're having it in your own deck should mean that you have plans to dodge its affect. Perhaps one way to "dodge" its affect is by using the lands you get back; maybe with Spellshapers. Use some of the lands you get back from Overburden to power-up your Trickster Mage, or the Waterfront Bouncer (perhaps use the Bouncer to reuse a Rishadan Footpad?). You could also take advantage of Overburden with Foil and Trade Routs; it's not that big of a deal, but it's a very synergistic operation.

Plus, Overburden will annoy the heck out of your opponent. Combine it with bounce, or land removal, and it’s a deck. One could also take advantage by playing straight-out Red land removal, or, save some of your own lands from Armageddon. Imagine: you play plenty of select weenie creatures, overwhelm your opponent, get 2 or 3 of your lands back from Overburden, and then destroy all other lands with one full-sweep Armageddon! Stunning, in my opinion.

In my opinion, Overburden is one of those cards that have many “small” uses. It seems that it does one thing: punishing a weenie deck; but it has “other” uses; many, yet feeble uses.

Well, if you'd care to scroll down to "T2 Blue Ponza", you'll see a deck I already built around this card without requiring it and am currently playtesting with mostly positive results. Thanks for your ideas, DUke, they're good and you're cool.

Oh, COME ON, Griffith!! Don't say "it's been done." It's been TRIED, and there is no reason to believe you can't try and do better. You could be the next Zvi or Flores or Taylor or Gizmo, but if you give up before you even TRY, then you have absolutely zero chance of doing so. Go ahead, give it a shot.

I would say, ideas to try would be mana-denial like LD and Ankh of Mishra to penalize them for playing the lands again.

Here is my PRELIMINARY listing from T2 Blue Ponza below:

BLUE Ponza

4 Overburden ...out vs CounterWrath for..Meekstone?
4 Tangle Wire ...slow the game down
4 Ankh of Mishra
4 Parallax Tide ....slow it down some more

3 Wash Out
3 Seal of Removal
4 Boomerang .... think: lands
4 Waterfront Bouncer
2 Viseling .... becomes High Seas vs R/G
4 Chimeric Idol
3 Sky Diamond .... a bit of speed

4 Rishadan Port
2 Saprazzan Skerry ... a bit of speed
15 Island

This deck is highly susceptable to Void (assuming they can cast Void) with 19 2cc spells, and needs major boarding vs CounterWrath. Don't take this to a serious tourney, it's a FUN deck. But....it plays out its hand quickly. Try it and see and tell us how you do.

With the results from States coming in, your gauntlet should be as follows:

1) R/G Fires
2) Lin-Sivvi White Weenie
3) U/W CounterWrath
4) U/B NetherGo
5) B/R ZombieRageHammer
6) G/W PantherWaveGeddon
