Can you tell how much of my criteria is based on art? He's cute and fuzzy and he can fly. I used to always put this card in any black deck for that reason alone.

This nomination is for a young friend of mine... He fell in love with the Chub Toad. So much so, that it became his nickname. He started collecting every copy of the card he could possibly attract and had over 500 of them when I last heard... (I'm not in any magic circles anymore).

For that, his card get's my nomination... for it truly does take a casual card like Chub Toad to generate that much love for a card.

I've played with this guy. He's not actually "good." He's annoying as all get-out... but undeniably Casual with a capital "C."

Jester's Cap: This card's power is directly proportional to the power of your opponent's deck. Even against a deck full of chaff, it can remove the most dangerous cards. Against a tournament deck, you can cripple the opponent by removing win conditions or key removal spells. With a little mana acceleration, I find it a potent weapon against even cut-throat decks. And it's a card that's full of options. Some choices will always be better than others, but Jester's Cap is one of the only cards in Ice Age that really requires brainpower to use optimally while simultaneously being versatile enough to use in most situations (Necropotence is very much that way, but I don't think I could convince even KJ that Necropotence is casual...). And let's not forget that Jester's Cap comes with a bonus: you can recur it and eat all the good cards out of your opponent's library.

I nominate Skeleton Ship. It is only fitting that the first Hall of Fame card from the Ice Age set be a gold card since this set is when they first came into being. Also, this nicely combined the colors correctly. However, I have only seen it used casually, (although it was used REALLY well) and have never seen it in a tournament at all. It takes the essence of black (the -1/-1 counters) and the essence of blue (first, it is a ship, second it dies without Islands in play) and blends them into a workable card. It also has the effect of screaming out the word "TARGET" in almost any casual game. If played in a multi-player game, it has an effect similar to a first turn black vise or royal assasin. All-in-all, of all the multi-colored cards, this is the foremost casual one I could think of.

And P.S., Necropotence is as ineligible as Black Lotus!

Ice Age is the set where the gold cards really didn't feel just thrown into the mix, though. They really "came into being" as their own card type(well, classification). Legends had gold cards that kinda felt dissimilar and unconnectedly random.

Ice Age's gold cards fit into the set.

That is exactly what I meant orgg. The Legends Gold cards felt like a novelty item that was never really playtested/researched fully. Ice Age seemed to flow more naturally to the game format, the colors, etc...

I was actually thinking about that turgy.... but, I don't even know a casual player who plays with them... so, they are just used for proxies... (Which I suppose does make them the most casual card in a sense...) I used Snow covered Swamps in a few decks... I don't think any other snow covered land was ever used in my playgroup... Maybe forests or mountains for some reason or other...

The only Snow Covered I ever used was the Forests, and that was just to power my Trample Critters. Aurochs, etc. Never really had much use for them although I still say someday I will build the Blue Cumulitive Upkeep deck that will utilze Snow Covered Islands to pay for that upkeep. Somehow, I never get around to it though...

I've seen them all used on occasion. They can help out a little against things like Scalpalexis, which one friend of mine used a lot back when it came out...

And then there's the almighty Snowfall.

Brainstorm. The card was perfect for a first turn move. You could use it to set up your next few moves which is critical in the early game - especially in multiplayer when most people spend the first couple of rounds just trying to get the right land combinations in play.
