Cool... a fifth person. Thanks for joining in.
Okay,
here's a thread from my first attempt to start a game up long ago. It basically explains the stats of STRength, INTelligence, WISdom, DEXterity, CONstitution, and CHaRisma if you don't know already. You guys get 75 points to put into the stats.
I'm going to give you max HP to start.
If you don't know how the classes work in Basic as opposed to Advanced/3.x, here's a quick rundown. You have your fighter, cleric, thief, and magic-user who are by default "human" (there's really no race subcategory). Fighters can use all weapons and armor, clerics can use any armor but no edged weapons, thiefs can only use leather armor but no shield but any weapon, and magic-users cannot use armor or shields and can only use daggers.
Then you have the non-human races which are classes unto themselves. Dwarves are the "fighters", have better saving throws, and can use any armor and shields and any weapon except long bows or two handed swords. Elves are a "fighter/magic-user" and can use any armor, shield, weapon, and cast spells (of course, they advance in levels much slower). They also can find secret doors fairly well. Halflings are kinda "mini-fighters" - they also can't use two-handed swords or long bows, but they have better than most saving throws, +1 t hit when using missile weapons, -2 to AC when facing larger than man-size opponents, and even a slight "hide-in-shadows" effect. They basically have a lot of special abilities to make up for their seemingly small size.
I'll set up the equipment in a bit.
