I have a simple question for you administrators... WHY DID YOU MAKE IT SO THAT OFF TOPIC AND BATTLE ARENA DON'T GIVE POSTS?

Ok, all done

To prevent spammers from recieving an inflated post-to-content ratio.

Yeah, but what about the majority of us who DON'T spam?!!much. They can't just do that because of a few people. That's acting like a teacher.*shudder*

What do you care about the post count that much anyhow ??
It's the content of your posts that really counts.

Personnally I never look at who has how many posts ....

At least you can be happy, this small rant gave you two more posts ...

WOOOOHOOO! TWO MORE POSTS!
Mundungu, i also don't care that much about post count. It just the whole prospect of the matter. i want to know exactly how many posts i have made.

It keeps the emphasis off of post counts. Too many people post silly "conversation" threads or threads about just how many posts they have. This is a Magic site; thus, they only count the posts on Magic.

I like this new method. I posted often on the off-topic, and still check is out. But this is a Magic site. If you want to know how serious the player who posted is, giving his magic-related posts is a slightly better indicator (I still have more posts than gizmo, though!)

Because people who don't spam don't care about their post count.

Because of the reasons people have already gave above.

ESPECIALLY the Battle Arena...

And this seems a tad contradictory....

You don't care, yet two sentences later you do? Uh huh...

I think it's to stop people like I was.

I used to, during the first 3 months of being a member, do nothing but contribute in some way to every conversation, even it I didn't post anything that had to do with the subject. Now, I post more seriously, but because of my earlier months, I am one of the Top 20 posters.

Same here, I've seriously slowed down my post count. Some of you must remember coming in and seeing every forum with me as the last poster, and the top 7 topics all had my name. I wasn't TRYING to up my posts, that just kinda happened. I don't post as often, but I like to delude myself that the quality has gone up.

Same with me, but back then I cared about how many posts I had.

ROTFLMFAO!

"Same here, I've seriously slowed down my post count..."

That cracked me up, coming from someone with 2900+ posts... :) Sorry. Can't stop laughing...

Just because I'm better than you doesn't mean you should get jealous, Zadok. And I have too slowed down. Remember my 150+ posts in one night? How about my "30 second warning" in DIFFERENT FORUMS. I'm getting slow in me old age....

Why don't we disable the "post count" feature? Does your legitimacy as a person really depend upon how many posts you have on this particular website?

I've been a member here for about a year, and I've averaged less than a post a day - does that mean my posts are less meaningful than somebody who posts 50 times a day?

In case there are any of you who haven't figured it out, let me tell you - NOBODY CARES how many posts you have here!

When it was proposed that the post count feature be enabled at MTG News, I argued against it, because it encourages spam and other superfluous garbage being put on the boards.

If it's that important, why don't we create one board here where post counts are kept for that board only? Every 30 days or so, give a booby prize for whoever has the most posts. Other than that, I think the post count thingy is a feature that has outlived it's usefulness.

I'm kind of interested in knowing, myself... I won't be going around spouting off about it, and I know it doesn't really matter, but I'm interested. I say just keep it the way it is right now, as it seems the best solution to me.

Mr. P has some good points (except for that board idea; that'll probably encourage spamming, especially if there's some "booby prize"). But being the passive crime-fighter I am, since things seem to be "fixed" (i.e. the majority likes it the way it is (?)), maybe we should just coast on our success so far.

And/or maybe Ed or another Founder can elaborate on why we have post counts (unless this has come up before and a quick search can reveal it).

Well, disabling the post count kind've has a problem for me. The "Superstars" that I post in the Voting forum has qualifications of months and posts. So, that kind've throws that off.
