I like it because if I'm going to consider trading with someone, I want to know how long they've been here, or if they just popped up out of the blue.

Not that new people aren't necessarily trustworthy...but I feel all warm and comfy if I recognize the name, look down, and see he/she's been here a while and isn't just a fly-by-nighter.

That's easy. Right above someone's number of posts, it shows when they registered. A much better judge of experience than the number of posts someone's made.

Right-o, there's a topic to talk about...

I really see no problem with the post count, I think it gives us a bit more character than the majority of other message boards. Not that that requires much, but between that, registration dates, and those nifty nicks on the side, I feel far more at home here than I do at any other message board.

Agreed. But it means a lot more than the quantity of posts.
I'm of the opinion that nothing matters but who the person is; do your research.

...anyone who considers the number of posts to be an important part of a member's identification is truly sad.

The number of posts doesn’t say anything about a person, except that he or she has many posts; it doesn't, EVER, reflect a person. Take 2 different people within a close range of number of posts; believe me, both people will be completely different.

...those who use their post counts as a tool of triumph are pathetic. You are who you are despite your post count...believe it or not.
