A bit back I was asking for ideas for running a Scout troop. Well here's a update on how things stand.
I'm still helping out, maybe stuck in post for a time.
We now have a Scout Leader.
The Helper has had her 18th b'day and has got her Assistants warrant.
So we are doing fine there.
We put the boys in for the local District 5-a-side football contest. All who could attend did, giving me a 6 man squad to play in the under 13's. Did I say, that I somehow ended up as the coach, via the fact that I was the only male leader. So when I started asking the boys the rules & they did not know either, we know we did not stand a chance. After two practices in the hut, where the team work skills were, that you did not attack the players omn your side, only pass the ball if you want to offload it so you can attack someone! (Well not quite that bad but close).
Got to the sports hall, found we had been placed in the over 13' pool, had to stop the boys legging it.
Got us in the right pool. Only four teams, but 2 from the troop which had won 4 out of the last 5 years. Played 5 minute games, 6 games of round-robin. Lost 2 of 6 games, to the fav troops A team. Our goalie, who's a Ice-Hockey puck blocker (was getting comments on his funny style of play, kept forgetting to catch the ball on rebounds) put his knee out of joint and then back in, all in one game.
Played in the final (your shocked, you should have seen us leaders) against the Fav team (who had beat us twice), had extra time & then penalties. When down to last of the first group, we WON 2-1. The boys did not find out who won until they got up into the stands, had been to keyed up to track who was winning. Not bad as it turns out on the way there the boys had been deciding not if we would win games, but if we would score more than 2 goals total, I think they decided that we would not.
Now that the foot & mouth problem is on a down turn, we are allowed out about around our area, so we are going camping in a months time. As well as doing a Cycle trip come map reading exicise.
