MP - Dope tricks with W/R

I got 2 Seize the Day for $2.50, why not build the deck? Besides, its a really fun card that allows for potentially 3 attack phases in 1 turn, sweet.

Q: So when is Seize the Day better than Relentless Assault?
A: When you used creatures that don't tap to attack.
So that gives me good cards like Serra Angel, Radiant, Herald of Serra, Tahngarth, and Diving Griffin. If I want to splash blue I've got Lightning Angel (which I'm out of), Morphling (boo!) and other blue untappers but I'll stay away for now. Besides, W/R is my favorite.

Creatures 20
4 Goblin Legionaire
4 Diving Griffin
4 Serra Angel
2 Tahngarth
2 Radiant
1 Gerrard (nice in MP and taps multiple creatures)
1 Opal Archangel

Tricks 5
2 Seize the Day (don't need too many, may add a 3rd)
3 Smoke (only 1 creature can untap during each player's upkeep - but should I run 2 or 3?)

Utility 11
2 Earthquake (hurts them, not really me)
4 Orim's Thunder (why run Disenchant when this is available?)
1 Zuran Orb
3 Order/Chaos (unblockability is very good in here)
1 Fork

Mana 24
1 Sol Ring
1 Strip Mine
1 Kor Haven
4 Plateau
4 Battlefield Forge
8 Plains
5 Mountains

So this deck should work well in Chaos, Allies and Enemies, and Secret Kill. Could work as a General's deck for Emperor's and it should work in 2 Headed Giant too (although I'll be careful with the Smokes)

Thoughts? Ideas? Anything? Responses have been light recently.

Well, Serra's Blessing will let what few creatures you have that DO tap to attack attack without tapping, but I honestly doubt that's worth the cost.

Smoke is an interesting card choice. You could perhaps support it by using something like Ring of Gix or Icy Manipulator to shut down your opponent's creatures altogether. You could also choose to assault other key elements most decks take for granted - Static Orb could be strong here.

Another option is Squee's Embrace. This type of deck would likely be vulnerable to removal taking out large numbers of creatures - The Embrace, while not utterly useless in a normal game, gives you a shot at keeping some fatty around post-Wrath, or similar effects.

Since this IS multiplayer, see if you can grab a couple of Reckless Assaults. They fit the theme well, and do the same thing. Reckless Charge could also fit the focused attack of this deck very well, while not acting as card disadvantage. +3/+0 is nothing to laugh at, and the fact that it also provides creatures with Haste, AND can be reused, makes it a very strong offensive card. Thoughts?

I think you mean Relentless Assault.

Aside from the Smoke and Earthquake, how do you rid yourself of troublesome blockers? Soltari Guerrillas, perhaps (though they do tap and die to Earthquakes)?

The almighty StP or Lightning Bolt might help against that guy who has more creatures out than you. And what is a white-based MP deck without Balance? ;)

I also second Zadok's comments about having something to tap opposing creatures. But why not use Puppet Strings? Yes, they are not as versatile as the Icy Manipulator or Ring of Gix, but they are cheaper to cast and generally easier to acquire due to that lack of versatility. If you are willing to sacrifice the Earthquakes, white has a few other creatures that tap opponents' creatures, though the specifics of their wording escape me.

Something to consider might be Total War from Ice Age. It will force all players into making all-out attacks, or just sitting still and doing nothing. I'm not sure how it would work with Smoke, though I am thinking it might be nasty.

I am not up to speed on most of the new cards, is there something available that forces creatures that block to become tapped (aside from Spore Cloud, which is the wrong color)? Also, if you choose to use Total War, is there any white or red cards that force an opponent to attack?

On a side note, it occurs to me that a deck built around Total War, Errantry, and Bullwhip might be amusing - you can potentially use the three to remove a player's entire force during his turn. Very unwieldy, though.

As to light responses, if people would stop with this type 2 stuff (in contrast to my buying many more cards, or at least reading the spoilers for the new sets), I, for one, would likely post more. As it is, I have to wait until I see the letters "MP" before making an appearence. ;)

Such is life.

Like krichaiushii, I am not familiar with Type 2 or current cards all that much. Older cards is what I can offer advice :)

So.... would Kismet fit in here? If you've got Smoke anyway... although for Allies, it might not be a good idea.

I'm thinking the only troublesome blockers would be flyers anyway, is there stuff that yours can't handle? If not, you're probably fine, if so.... maybe StP?

Blinding Light is a quick-and-dirty white sorcery (2W) that taps all non-white creatures. Available in Invasion or Mirage. Uncommon in both.

Kismet is targetted - you'd either need to play with multiple copies or have one guy who regularly annoys you... or maybe play a variant, wherein targetted permanents can change targets during their controller's upkeep. Makes other targettec permanents more useful- like the Venerable Black Vise, for example. :D

That being said, having an opponent play "Island, Sol Ring, White Mox, Blue Mox, Kismet - you, end of turn" as his first turn really, really sucks. Especially in a duel.

The sorcery Istanbul recommends is a good idea, though. Since you are playing red, see if you can find any Dwarven Songs - a(n) (un)common instant from Legends that turns any number of target creatures red until end of turn. Very useful in regards to Blinding Light.

Another neat little card is Angels trumpet . that takes some special planning you need to tap their creatures and not let them untap. juntu stakes and meekstone take care of everything but 2 power creatures. Thundermare, shrieking Mogg, Blinding Light are all mass tappers. Puppet strings will tap and untap creatures I can't remember if it affects opponent creatures. Just some random thoughts trying to prove spidey wrong.

I thought you meant my comments about blockers above :)

Yes, please prove me wrong. I have noticed the little flurry by you, Mikeymike, Dune Echo, and krichaiushii :p

Thanks for all the responses guys!

OK, I'll have to post for real on this deck tomorrow when I'm not short on time, but I see one main focal point I need to address. I can either

A) Cut the Smokes and go more aggro. This would make the deck much more consistent but much more boring too. If I was to do this I'd run Reckless Charge (I like this card too Zadok) or Squee's Embrace (which makes Tahngarth much more dangerous).

B) Put in more support for the Smokes. But not too much, I don't want to take away from the original focus of the deck which is Seize the Day. I see room for 3 more card slots so that probably relegates me to 1 selection.

Options:
Icy/Ring
Kismet (D'Angelo ruling has officially broken this card so it effects all opponents, that's just not fair at all)
Static Orb (which would get me beaten up)
Total War
Puppet Strings
Blinding Light
Bullwhip (which I'll probably save for my Wall of Souls/Sleeper Agent deck I'm planning)

I think I'm OK on the creature removal though, I've already got 14 options in the deck that can potentially deal with creatures.

Long live W/R
Mike

I can't wait for the Wall of Souls/Sleeper Agent deck!

The artifacts are visible threats, while Blinding Light has good surprise value against nonwhite decks.

If Kismet has that errata, then go for it!!!!

I'm! Running! Out! Of! Exclamation! Points!!!!
