Mono Black Control for Multiplayer

18 Swamp
4 Cabal Coffers
4 Tainted Isle (okay, just a wee bit-o-blue)

2 Beacon of Tomorrow
4 Barter in Blood
4 Innocent Blood
4 Syphon Mind
2 Mirari
4 Consume Spirit
4 Corrupt
1 Thran Foundry
1 Decree of Pain
4 Evincar's Justice
4 Demonic Tutor

I've been play testing this thing for the last 6 weeks trying to tailor it for the groups I play with. This deck can only work well in a non-team environment since the "Blood" cards don't favor or discriminate  . The Blue was added just last week when I was sitting at my desk thinking once I go off on just one person I had better be able to survive until my next turn. But if want to kill someone off whose at 15 life points then it'll take me awhile to finish off the rest of the group. Add to that I've already been under-the-gun, so to speak, for not allowing anyone to have creatures.

Yes, the Mirari's are good but in several of my groups someone always plays artifact destruction so when I play it I had better be in a position to win. But how to win by eliminating more than one or two players at a time. Jeezsh, if I only had a way of getting some extra turns.

Beacon of Tomorrow

I never liked this card or any of the other Timewalk reincarnations. I like Timewalk, though :). But since I could produce lots of mana i figured why not try it out?

This past weekend I had that opportunity when I invited several friends over for a day of Magic this past Saturday. But it wasn't until at the end of the night did I get the chance to play it since we did "Team-Play" for most of the afternoon and into the evening. By then we were down to four players and I begged for us to play Chaos Multiplayer. usually when i ask to play a format eyes roll and a general groan come from the masses since I'm probably suggesting a format that I'll be likely to win.

They're right :)

But I succumbed to "Team-Play" most of the day (bleech!) and they figured they owed it to me.

No notes or anything but I will say this; when I played Beacon of Tomorrow and copied it with the Mirari and then played a copied Demonic Tutor and played another copied Beacon of Tomorrow the decks started to get collected and chairs got empty. :( "Do I smell?"

Evincar's Justice is just evil!

Your group allows more than one Demonic Tutor?

If you have to take 3 out, you can substitute that black creature from Weatherlight where if it goes to the graveyard, all other players have to sac a creature. That way he's good on early defense.

Unless we specify a particular format then anything pretty much goes. The reason we're loose on the rules is that we have some newer type players who may not be able to build decks without using some of their cards (due to a limited collection) and if we all adapted to them we'd all be using Kamigawa block cards and not using the rest of our entire collection. :(

What's the name of the creature you mentioned?

Meh, using 4 demonic tutors is lame. Replace them by diabolic ones.

Genju of the fens might be interesting.

I'd drop the tainted isles (and the blue) when using Cabal Coffers, but that's just personal prefference. The beacons look nice, but I'd rather play something black (beacon, genju, promise of power).

Is using Demonic Tutor "lame" because it's overkill or because a sorcery for 1B is not cost-effective?

This deck is supposed to be 'creature-less' but the GotF would be a good choice otherwise. Thanks :)

This deck was originally all black but like I said, in my mutiplayer environment once I polished off someone using the Mirari to double up on either Corrupt or Consume Spirit then all 'focus' is on me and could spell t-r-o-u-b-l-e for me in a hurry. So I needed a way to kill off everyone, or close to everyone as soon as possible. The beacon allows me to do this. I did thoink about Time Stretch but the cost really WAS too much for my taste and what with 4 copies of Demonic Tutor and possibly using the Mirari on them i have a better chance of killing everyone in two to three consecutive turns.

I think I'd rather use Demonic Tutors than Diabolic Tutors. The whole costing less mana thing is an advantage in most decks...

I think jorael meant it was lame having four copies of a restricted card, even if you ARE allowed to use them in your group.

To which I say: if you're allowed, then go for it! Let them feel the pain! :D

ALWAYS helps. :)

I suppose it really depends on what rules will be used (or not used). This past year or so I have been playing with people who like the idea that; if you have the cards you should be allowed to use the cards i.e. if you have four Black Lotus, then use them!

With my 'old' play group (tournament players mostly) we definitly went by DCI sanctioned rules and formats and they were almost always current Type II games.

Believe me, if I were to participate in a MP game with strangers I would definitly ask about restrictions et al stuff.

...if I had to.
