Magic Cruise

Part of me would have enjoyed a nice cruise and magic gaming...the logical side of me knows I would not have enjoyed the world's largest seafaring sausage fest.

I don't get the Sausage-fest reference either.
I really dislike cruises, as most of the people are just drunken idiots, but one with magic events and fun things to do wouldn't be so bad.

A sausage-fest is a party with a shortage of women. Think about it that way, and the reference makes sense.

Man, you guys are old!

That's so true...

But I was under the impression that the Magic players were a subset of the cruise-goers, they didn't compose ALL of the cruise-goers. I mean, a cruise ship can usually have a 500-1000 people, depending on the size - this was probably a "small" cruise ship, but still...

I've never encountered more drunken idiots than normal on a cruise ship... since you have to pay for the alcohol, that usually puts a damper on drinking. Not to say that there aren't any, of course, but it's not like it's an open bar or anything...

It WAS just a subset. There are videos online of players mentioning how the other cruise-goers would stare in confusion while much of the casino was taken up for magic tables.

I don't know about that. I mean, it's not like wedding reception levels of drunken stupidity, but I know I got significantly more hammered on my honeymoon cruise than during any other two-week period in my life.

On Royal Caribbean, everything you buy on the ship (including beverages) gets charged to a ship credit card, so it's easy to lose track of how much you buy on drinks. Plus, there are bars everywhere and you NEVER have to drive home.

<shrug> Yeah, but not everyone's on their honeymoon, nor drinks a lot anyways. I mean, I've been on Dolphin, Norweigan, and Carnival, and most of the people I met were "coherent" :) Obviously I didn't meet every single person on the cruise ship, but I didn't meet enough to think that "Man, everyone's drunk!" on here.

Yeah, you can charge to the ship's card or your own, but usually, you've either budgeted for drinks or keeping track in some way so you're not surprised at the end of the cruise. It's probably a very small percentage of people who have a huge bill at the end.

So wait it wasn't a boat full of magic players? The pics I saw where like 100 dudes and 2 women.

That's true. Are they going to do it again any time soon? I might check it out if I have extra funds...

Wizards has nothing to do with the organization of the Cruise. Go to Legionevents.com

Is it connected to the first one? 'Cause WOTC "promoted" it (or at least mentioned it) on their website and they had some people go, as apparent from the follow-up articles.

*sigh....*

Look here

Wizards sent people to the cruise because it was a fun thing to document. Additionally, they agreed to allow a PTQ to take place and they wanted to be there to document it.

The new one is the same company as the old one. The set up is relatively the same, with the big difference being that you would leave from Ft. Lauderdale instead of Galveston.
