The first time I looked at the list I wasn't giving it my full attention and wasn't impressed, but after re-reading...man there are a lot of subtle (and not-so-subtle) bombs in here.

Stuff I like

Bane of the Living - although it seems as if it kills itself as well, which largely defeats the purpose. Either way, its a great alternative mass removal spell that is an efficient creature as well. Well designed card.

Caller of the Claw - this will be a highly sought after card as it will be strong in any format minus Type 1 competitive. It is almost too easy to abuse this guy.

Clickslither - WotC is starting to make Goblins smart. This thing will be better than Blistering Firecat in many decks.

Cloudreach Cavalry - This card doesn't jump out at first, but its so efficient it makes building a bird/soldier deck a must. A 3/3 flyer for 1W? C'mon.

Elvish Soultiller - just because this is exactly what my elf deck needs.

Gempalm Avenger - wow that is a strong cycling ability. A potential for an uncounterable finisher. I really, really like this card. This thing will own draft.

Gempalm Incinerator - Goblin decks are getting very strong very quickly.

Goblin Goon - Yay! they finally did it right.

Graveborn Muse - Single handedly makes Zombies a playable archetype. At worst a Phyrexian Arena built into a 3/3, at best some disturbingly ugly card advantage each turn.

Hollow Specter - Ugh. Can be better at removing cards than the original Hippie, but at the cost of tying up your mana. Another well designed card.

Keeper of the Nine Gales - Tradewind Rider returns. Not as good as the original, but still good.

Krosan Cloudscraper - it is way easy to trick out and has a low upkeep cost. And how difficult is it to give this thing trample?

Lavaborn Muse - Multi-player, wow.

Nantuko Vigilante - what a great alternative to Naturalize. Its flips over to blow something up and be a relatively efficient creature.

Noxious Ghoul - I like uncommons that you can build a deck around. This is one of those uncommons.

Quick Sliver - Well this just made its way into an extended deck. Instant creatures are so freaking strong.

Riptide Mangler - blue shouldn't get weenies this good. Another reason to play U/G.

Rockshard Elemental - Just because double-strike is such a cool idea.

Scion of Darkness - This is an uber-fatty. Built in semi-evasion to make its ability work, a win condition by itself, and a common that goes and fetches it out of your deck for you.

Seedborn Muse - A personal Awakening? What the hell were they thinking. This is almost too strong.

Shifting Sliver 3U - Unblockable slivers...

Skirk Alarmist - Haste on top of a tap ability creature, I like it. This card makes me want to build a morph deck (unlike Ixidor).

Tribal Forcemage - Damn, that's a strong tribal card.

Warbreak Trumpeter - Its expensive, but with all these great 'sac a goblin' cards goblin tokens are very strong.

Windborn Muse - Propaganda on a 2 power flyer, sign me up.

Wirewood Hivemaster - should make tokens very quickly, although it another elf card that wants you to over commit.

Withered Wretch - Get used to seeing this card, it will be around a very very long time.

I'm not as happy as I thought I would be. There are a lot of cards here with potential, but a lot of incredibly boring cards, too. The Invoker cycle? Wow, I can pay eight mana to kill an Elephant. THAT'S mana efficiency. :-\

If there's any card in the set that requires mocking, it's Dripping Dead. For 4BB, you get a 4/1 that can't block with the Basalisk ability. How underwhelming. :) It's like Diabolic Edict, at sorcery speed, costing six mana. Somebody get me a paramedic.

When Legions does something right, though, it does it perfectly. Hollow Specter is wonderfully balanced, Goblin decks get no less than three playable two power for two mana creatures, as well as the best one-drop Goblin in Type 2, the Goblin Grappler. Gempalm Incinerator gives block Goblin decks a HUGE boost with a cantrip removal spell costing only 1R. Oh, and it sometimes pretends to be a creature, too.

I'm dissapointed with the Dragons. As seven mana flying fatties go, they aren't too bad, but both of their abilities are kinda silly. Kilnmouth Dragon gets really big really fast, but honestly, who taps an 8/8 or 11/11 flyer to ping someone?

Riptide Mangler, unless I'm mistaken, does NOT work with Giant Growth. The FAQ definately stated that it doesn't function with +1/+1 counters, I presume Giant Growth is out of the picture as well. Otherwise, we'd have an awfully large 0/3 on our hands... :)

As for Cloudreach Cavalry: OB3Y. In the right deck, you'll always see him as a 3/3 flyer for 2. And don't forget the Dark Supplicant and his ability to yank out a 6/6 w/ trample 2nd turn. I will also have NO problem playing the Gempalm Incinerator and Polluter in my R/B Oversold/Rift deck.

I'm kinda lamed out myself. There is no cheap Amplify Elf, like I wanted in my uberfast Elf Deck. I do get Caller of the Call (instant Elf, makes a 2/2 Bear for every creature you lost). The reason I hate playing Elves in Extended is you get wrecked by everyone's mass removal like Clasm/Wrath/Deed/PERISH/Hibernation. This guy gives you an instead speed Rotlung Reanimator effect.

Notice that pulling a Scion of Darkness by sac'ing 3 Clerics lets you search your library, hand, OR graveyard, so if you draw your Scion then you can cycle him and reanimate him.

There seems to be a lack of Johnny cards. There are lots of morph tricks that play into an Ixidor deck, it seems.

I noticed some skill-testing cards for Limited, too. Like the U vanilla 0/2 flying bird, for example.

Corpse Harvester
3BB
Creature — Zombie Wizard
3/3
1B, T, Sacrifice a creature: Search your library for a Zombie card and a swamp card, reveal them, and put them into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

This is stuff I like to see. He's uncommon and nice-sized, and lets you sac chumpers, Pacified creatures, or creatures in combat for a nice 2-for-1 trade (though searching for a Zombie is more quality than just 1 card), reusable, and doesn't die to Cruel Revival, Shock, Swat, or Skirk Commando alone.

I guess the biggest hype card will be Akroma, who is close to Verdant Force caliber fatness, but in a bad color.

Buuuuut anyway. Here's what made me salivate. Please keep in mind that I am speaking for LIMITED, as Constructed has gone terribly stale. I'll interject the occasional comment for Constructed, but overall, I'm looking at how happy I'll be to see these guys in my league.

Aphetto Exterminator - Yes. 3-power dude that will probably kill someone when he flips, and a reasonable cost attached to him. I like it.

Aven Redeemer - White pays 3 for a 2/2 flyer anyway. For an extra mana, I get to make Samite Healer jealous? Vicious combat tricks.

Bane of the Living - Hi, I'm Wrath of God. Sure, I blow myself up too, but who cares?

Covert Operative - This is one of those you-need-to-have-an-answer-RIGHT-NOW cards. I like those. :)

Crypt Sliver - Holy CRAPDONKEYS. Drudge Skeletons wish they had it so good! A must in any Limited deck that can support them.

Enormous Baloth - What can I say? He's very large. :)

Gempalm Strider - Woohah! Instant-speed mini-Overrun for Elves! A nasty surprise waiting for anyone who thinks it's safe now that attackers are declared.

Goblin Dynamo - Wow, is he ever! Let me get this straight...he's a 4/4 AND a Tim AND a living Blaze? Zounds!

Goblin Firebug - Yeah, you heard me. In a format where lands can be crucial, the loss of one can be devastating, especially early...which is when Firebug comes out. So you can take some hits from him, or lose a land.

Havoc Demon - Will have an irritating tendency to simply show up and win games, more than his grinning cousin. Flying is all that and a BIG bag of chips.

Keeneye Aven - Just what blue really needed - a buddy for Ascending Aven to help back him up in the decent common fliers department.

Kilnmouth Dragon - I give a crap about its Amplify, which I never get to use? Hell no! I like him more as a 5/5 flyer for 7, which is just fine for me, thanks.

Krosan Vorine - No, really. Look at him again. Provoke and Familiar Ground are good things. Since Provoke will take effect before blockers are declared, I'll choose the one and ONLY creature that will block it...kiss any X/3 creature goodbye, as well as anything with 1 power but less than 4 toughness.

Master of the Veil - With all the morph triggers in this set, I think he'll see HEAVY use in any deck that will support him.

Mistform Seaswift - Hey, it's hard to argue with a 3/1 flyer for 4 mana, especially since you can morph him out for 2.

Primoc Escapee - Yes, I know he's a 4/4 flyer for 7 mana. But he IS a 4/4 flyer, and he cycles if you just can't see yourself casting him.

Skinthinner - If you don't know why this guy is good, I am seriously afraid of you.

Skirk Marauder - I'm sorry, I never thought I'd say this about a Goblin, but he's dead sexy. A 2/2 body that turns into a 2/1 with a Shock attached.

Skirk Outrider - Oh, because you KNOW nobody plays R/G. :p Usually a 4/4 trample.

Sootfeather Flock - In case it's not obvious, I like flying. And how often does black get a 4-mana 3/2 flyer? (I know, I know, but who's really NOT gonna morph him out?)

Spectral Sliver - Another mean one. What happens when Armor Sliver and Barbed Sliver love each other very much.

Voidmage Apprentice - The presence of a common hard counter ought to shake Onslaught block up a little bit...

White Knight - I nearly filled my undies when I heard my favorite boy was coming back with a sleek new look. I am a *happy man*.

Wingbeat Warrior - Hey, it's one of those good white flyers WotC was talking about. And if you turn him face up, he can be a Pegasus Charger until EOT!

Now, for the craptacular turds. The cards that I will open and throw across the room, eat, vandalize, and otherwise bemoan the very existence of.

Aven Envoy - Stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid STUPID! Why?! Why waste cardboard?! It attacks for nothing, blocks like a paper towel...yeah, it's cheap, but here's a word of advice: sometimes, you get what you pay for!

Dark Supplicant - Sure, he has a SMALL chance of having a cool ability. But more often than not, he's gonna be an uncommon 1/1 for 1 mana. Zzzzz...

Defiant Elf - He sucked when he was Llanowar Elite, but he had kicker then. So very not worth the card slot...

Dripping Dead - 6 mana for THIS? I block it with my least useful creature, and it dies. Am I missing something?

Fugitive Wizard - 1 mana...for a 1/1...with no abilities. At all. He's just THERE. Oh, come on...

Needleshot Gourna - Not that he's BAD, but Spitting Gourna is better...1 extra point of toughness is NOT worth an additional G.

Just a note about Aven Envoy: I did get and use him in my prerelease deck and while he only came out once out of 3 matches and 9 games (or twice), just putting Crown of Vigor on him helped, as I had a 1/3 flyer which was able to block most of the other flyers or little ground forces. Plus, I didn't come across a lot of flyers to begin with in my opponent's decks so he was able to deliver mad beats for a couple of rounds :p

Any card that needs another card to have any kind of use at all is *not* redeemed.

Please change the first instance of 'card' in the previous post to 'creature'. Obviously, Donate needs another card to work, but *it* doesn't suck.

I did some 2-player drafting with my son and I put a couple of Aven Envoys in my deck because I had a seriously strong Bird theme. Yeah, the card itself is a piece of crap, but sometimes, just having another Bird in play can be increadible.

That's also why I put it in; I had other blue Birds and was hoping to get some advantage with Crown of Vigor (I hope that's the right crown, the green one that gives +1/+1). My friend had a white dude that got +2/+2 and flying if he controlled a bird (I think) so there might have been a use there.

Someone really should look into the matter. He's left us in this dark place, all alone. It's scary, and we've been here for sooo long.
