I'm glad he clarified that "womanizer" part, I was wondering about that... :)

The only thing I have to nitpick is that for a lot of people, football (or sports) IS their hobby. It just happens to be more "accepted" because it has a wider audience (going back to that "Will Magic Go Mainstream" thread). But I wholeheartedly agree with the message of the article.

*sound of constant applause*

The Ferrett out-did himself this time. That was brilliant! Non-applicable to me, but brilliant!

I have kids in my study hall who play magic (not in the studay hall, no games are allowed), however, thay all know now that I play and often come up to me ask me about it. The first time one of them asked me about magic there was a split second to think whether to answer or not, I answered and a few of Muggles heard and looked, but never said a word to me or to the kid who asked. Now everone knows that I play magic and so what, I'm still arespected professional in my building, my peers know, my administrator knows, it seems everybody knows and no one really cares except those who DO play or are asking me to teach them to play. I'll be starting a gaming club next semester that'll include CCG's, Board Games and Chess.
Great article, BTW.

Hola Certified Public Accountants,

Whithout a doubt, The Ferrett's article was the best I have ever read regarding anything even remotely related to Magic. I tried to hit on this subject a while back, but The F is such a friggin' bad dude that I actually stood up and cheered my butt off when I was finished reading.

If he's not careful, The F will replace Josh Bennett as the writer I'd most like to have sex with (or at least the writer that I like the best). Heh.

I hope the article gets some publicity all around the gaming community.

...just read glimbs here and there...I got the point thought...good article...really nice...though, it may not apply to everyone, when I used to play Magic in school, I used to actually "show-off" my cards...yes, "show" off...why would anyone hide a bunch of cards? The only reason I one time hid my cards was because I was warned that I'd be suspended if I was cought with them, but with other students, I never hid the cards...in fact, I have a few friends who happen to be on the school's football team who are actually >>interested<< in the cards, not the game, but the some of, say, Ron Spencer's art...I've also lent some girls in the drawing class some Magic cards to draw some of the illustrations from Magic.

I think Magic is a great way to "shout" your voice, not hide it...because when I first move to my new school, I didn't know many people...my first few friends were all Magic players...they "cought" one of my artwork pieces and recalled it being from Magic.

Magic is a great thing...it enables you to shout your voice rather than to hide it...and truely, those who are "ashamed" of showing it off, they're not ashamed of Magic itself, but of themsevles.

I read the article soon after the page was updated, and I really liked it a lot. Its one of my favourite articles ever by Ferett. And do I ever like Ferett's articles! The beginning may seem like it has nothing at all to do with magic. I think it has everything to do with the game. Article's just awesome. Great insight Ferett.

The best piece I've read in a while. Others have spoken about the subject before, but that one is way above the rest.

Istanbul -> There were actually two teachers who play Magic at my old school. You can ask almost anyone at the school who their favorite (though not the best) teacher is, and it's one that plays. I actually got to skip one of his lectures once to look through his cards to complete a trade. :) Everyone knows he plays, and it actually makes him cool. I've also been involved in building two Game Clubs, if you need any help or anything.

DUke -> I WAS on the junior high football team last year. I can name at least 5 others on that team who played, including one who was a varsity starting lineman last year, and one who was this year.

I tried to get one of my teachers into Magic, but he's too much an Avalon Hill-type war/strategy game player. Oh, well.

BOOYAH! Excellent Article!

I play magic everywhere I feel like it. People's opinions are immaterial. I'm a freak. And hells, am I proud of it. I'll smack with my black metal roses anyone who tries to make it otherwise.

wow...that was deep. This article is the best. It's too true for many peope I know. I admitt I've been a bit insecure at times. Slightly insane to begin with, I never realy made too many friends. But I know many people that were worse off. A sad truth to life.

Looks like I'd better start writing some articles then, if I'm ever to have a chance with ya, you big sexy bald dude.

;)

And while I'm here, I just want to say... this article was much more entertaining and inspiring than that Cogs and Zogs thing that Wakefield wrote so long ago.

And another hats off to Friggin' Rizzo, whose "ellipsis tricks" had me choking on my smoke.

Have you ever tried that with the flavor text on Squee's Toy?

Nasty.

No kidding! The "Cog and Zog" article was so not true. Probably Wakefield's worst :( I remember writing an angry reply and getting it posted on the Dojo, although I probably shouldnt've done that if I read any other JW articles before that :)
