(Offhand, I wonder how exactly a Trix deck qualifies as 'Casual'...what with 'casual showdown' and all...but whatever.)

I dunno. I wasn't able to go off until turn 6 (I threw this deck together and didn't test it, so I don't know if this is an average performance or not, but I would estimate that it's clock is between five and six turns with about the amount of disruption that I used this game). And the only things I did that affected other players until then was cast a Duress and then a Cabal Therapy. With the same starting hand and draws that I got this game, I know of multiple block constructed tournament decks that would have had a faster clock on average (not to mention Standard, Extended, Legacy, and Vintage) or been able to disrupt the crap out of me so that I wouldn't have a chance of winning. I thought my deck would be scrubby enough for a casual showdown, but I guess I might have been wrong about that.

That said, I thought the concept was slightly too cheesy myself, but went ahead and built Rector-Trix because I wanted to use my Rectors in a deck (and I don't have Pattern of Rebirth). I can't be sure whether I was able to go off because of inherent cheesiness (drawing into Bargain and Dark Ritual) or simply because of bad luck for my opponents (Spidey had to mulligan and then kept a hand that relied on Library, which was rendered inactive during the early game, and you were able to drop enough defense to ward off a creature assault, but didn't have any answers to the combo) as one could look at it either way. I won't be using this deck again in such a casual game though, as it capitalizes too much on Bargain (if I hadn't drawn into it, I would probably have drawn into a Rector and fetched it). And Bargain is one of the most ridiculously broken cards ever (if not the most ridiculously broken card ever). Plus it's totally vulnerable against attackers and disruption (if one of you had countered the Bargain, I'd have been SOL). Also, as you've pointed out, it's Trix, which is--sort of evil.

I don't know if your deck was giving its expected performance or not. My impression was that you were keeping up a good pace to potentially win a larger multiplayer game of 5+ people, but were in a danger zone against an aggro or aggro-control deck (or combo, since you didn't disrupt anything) in a three person game. Were you getting decent draws?

I was getting pretty good draws. In a normal casual multiplayer game, I would have been able to hold my own.

Against a tournament deck (let's face it, Trix IS a tournament deck, and you absolutely will not convince me otherwise), well...I brought my CASUAL deck to CASUAL Showdown. If I'd known we were going cutthroat, win-at-all-costs style, I would have brought my mono-blue control deck and ground this game down to a standstill.

Oh well. Lesson learned; against Oversoul, bring your A game - even in a so-called casual match - or don't bother coming.

Isty, I feel ya bro...

I will say though, I play mean decks in our "casual" games too... You can't even say "tribal" without someone bringing a stacked deck.... This brings to mind a good topic... What is Casual? (Geez, I haven't played magic for a long time, now that I think of it - other than with my 2 boys, and those games are definately casual!)
