Blue Stompy..feel the POWHA! (yea you train..feeling it yet?)

So I've been tinkering with apprentice lately and noticed their abudance of old green stompy decks. They're cute in their own little misguided ways. Quick and efficient, I had to build one.....but there was only one..well two problems.

1. I'm a Johnny so it had to be Stompy Ala Reverend Love style.

2. I just wasn't feeling it with green. While yes admittingly Green's probably the premier stompy color, I didn't want a green stompy deck. Probably goes back to that Johnny thing.

Way back when while tinkering I came across Methran Soldier . Said to myself:

Hmm....interesting clown we've got here...maybe I'll put'm to use later
Then most likely went on to build some crappy deck with too many x4 Rare cards.

Problem was pre-Mirrodin the only good blue booster was Unstable Mutation. Now Post Mirrodin Blue Stompy has access to all kinds of equipment toys.

So without further ado, Blue Stompy:

Creatures:
3 Sage Owl -Flyer
3 Cloud of Faeries -Flyer
3 Spire Owl -Flyer
3 Cloudskate -Flyer
4 Phantom Warrior -Unblockable
4 Escape Artist -Unblockable
4 Metathran Soldier -Unblockable

Creature Boost:
4 Bonesplitter
4 Unstable Mutation

Anti Fog, WoG, Pyroclasm, etc.
3 Foil
4 Force of Will

Lands:
21 Island

As you can see Blue Stompy consists of efficient evasion based creatures. So the ever frustrating chump block isn't a problem here.

While I'd rather draw then stack, Spire Owl and Sage Owl allow B.S. to screen for more creatures.

Cloudskates a 2/2 flyer for 2..not bad.

Cloud Fairies come out for "free".

Metathran Soldier, Escape Artist, Phantom Warrior are the breed and butter of blue stompy. You'll pray for some kind of booster with these on the board.

Foil and Force of Will are both alternate casting cost denial. Blue Stompy's all about racing and we certantly don't want any kind of Wrath of God or such to resolve. Boucning 3 islands doesn't hurt at all..when your most expensive creature is 3.

I've gone 2-1 against traditional based stompy which isn't bad considering it's BLUE! All in all both a fun and surprising deck to play.

FEEL teh Powha Train!

I give credit where all credit is due - it is a decent build with some good strengths...

If I played Red/White ... or my Utility Belt Deck - Game over...

Seriously now...

The counters are always an issue...

Something to think about - if Unstable is going to kill your creatures - instead of them dying, move the enchantement to another creature and commence the beats...

with... oh... say...

ENCHANTMENT ALTERATION!!!...

Also - you might as well look into Pemmin's Aura...

Recall would not be a bad card to have - that way all your worthless late draw lands, get you counters back, or unstables, or creatures, etc....

the possibilities for blue stompy are endless.... but I'd better shut up before I make the deck unbeatable... ;)

And don't forget Shadow creatures!!!...

"Shut up train!"
"don't worry I can handle it!"
"just shut up!"

You could also power conduit this bad boy...

wow - removing the mutation's -1/-1 counters, and getting a +1/+1 counter at the same time!!!.... with the already permanaent giant growth!...

"Shut up train!!! before I..."
"Trust me - I can handle it!"

I don't know how much this helps your deck in particular, but it is an idea to keep in mind. Something I've been giving a lot of thought to recently is Blue-Aggro/Draw with Empyrial Plates. The idea being to get out Phids, Magpies, or Finkel to make the Plates more effective as the game goes on.

Later in the game the Plates can be moved to things like Metathran Soldier or Phantom Warrior and the like.

Regarding your build (which let's be honest, all you really want out of me anyway :D), I'd include Wormfang Drake in here.

It is most definitely aggressive in nature, but its "CiP, remove your creature" effect can be teamed up very nicely with a late innings Unstably Mutated creature, a Cloudskate with zero fade counters, or Sage/Spire Owls.

Also, are the Foils effective in here? I wonder if Thwart might be better, given that you don't need many lands to be effective and you are a little short on card-draw.

Interesting deck idea.

However, this is the deck forum. As this is a jumble of blue cards, your post belongs in the Vices and War Crimes forum. Please make the needed adjustments. Thank you. ;)

Vices and War Crimes tribunal council has entered the room!...

As the subject of the war crimes committed by act, and being found that this is a blue deck -

You are banished for life!!!...;)

train, you must remember this is a first offense. As such, he should not be banned yet. I say strip him of his diplomatic immunity.

Let's see him walk the cold streets of London with that blue deck now...the cops'll have a field day with him!

Choo-Choo

Don't fight the feeling anymore train. Just think of it;

No more nights of waking up dripping with sweat with a vague memory of your nightmare.....blue...

No more longingly gazing at the forbidden fruit of blue trade binders...

No more anger....and even deeper...arousal, when having your 8/8 Trample Chingus countered...

You don't have to feel alone anymore Train....blue's calling for you...heed it's summons...join the PoWHa!

Alas I own no Empyrial Armor :(

Wormfang Drake is my opinion a great suggestion. I can definitely see taking advantage of his drawback. I'll tweak room for 3 (probably take out 3 sage owls).

Foil suppose to mean Thwart..got my spells mixed up...even got the quote to prove it (gotta save some face after that Rector snafu)

Boucning 3 islands doesn't hurt at all..when your most expensive creature is 3

You better bring me up on war crimes! My midget posse don't play around. I'll take on anyone with the musty-nuts enough to challenge me.

Looking good

Only other blue aggro creatures I can think of are Flying Men, Serendib Efreet, and Thalakos Seer - but your list looks solid, I'd go with what you got.

Oo oo wait, Fairie Conclave!

The Tentacled One
Thieving Magpie looks like it could be good here. And of course, as Mikeymike pointed out, Serendib Efreet! I'd love to see that thing used in more decks...

You mean its wrong to be aroused by spells getting countered???

I guess I'll have to call the cops on all my blue opponents. They always seem a little "distracted" when their counters resolve.

Oversoul

The Tentacled One
It's a little weird, but I don't think it's wrong...

Now, if someone gets aroused by playing a morph creature face-down thingy, that's just plain sick...

So what do you do if the judge keeps deck-checking all your decks... and only yours...

do you tell them you're not interested, and that fondling your cards will be considered a direct invasion of your, and your card's privacy, and that if it continues you'll be forced to reduce the fondler to a pile of mutilated flesh?...

;)
