It seems the trend of Magic players complaining about the game goes up and down much like the S.Market. One minute everyone is happy with the environment, the next they wanna quit.
I have not seen this attitude here at CPA but I scan alot of Magic sites and right now, it's complaining time. One may not see many rants coming from Pro players since they have it easy, sorta...while less competitive players simply choose not to get caught up in the angst of Magic...BUT theres the people in-between. Im one of them and so are an awful lot of my friends and fiends. It all depends on your history of Magic, win/losses, experience and overall attitude.
Why complain? Whats to gain UNLESS you contriubute a solution. I know we live in a free rant infested country but DO something about it.
ISSUES; What to play at Regionals..(Remember folks--if you dont play competitively then most of you might not understand.)---Regionals opens up discussions about how the field of decks (Tier one) are limited to maybe 4 MAX...those being CounterRebel, Fires (& variants), Fish and NetherGo....when theres no clear choice people are bound to complain. The flip side is if there IS a choice people start to say that theres no Metagame, no fun..blah blah blah.
My proposed solution is this.- Play with what you know and really LIKE. Don't go with whats popular or which has the highest win %...sure we all like to win but when you choose something that your not used to your cheating yourself and will most likely perform at sub-par. I personally know several locals in KC that have changed thier REG decks over 5 times in the course of a month...and Ill wager they won't do squat- come REG time.
ISSUE 2- Magic has become less fun, more of a headache. This would be what I call Magic Down Syndrome- A player gets burnt out on playing week in week out, they cruise the net for the latest tech, read all the John Friggin Rizzo articles PLUS the Archives...they sort cards in the late eve, they miss important family events just to attend a tournament. One minute they LOVE the game, the next- HATE IT.
SOLUTION- Stop and smell the card sleeves. Stop playing Magic for ONE week...yes I know thats hard to do but It works. Don't go to MerdianMagic, CPA (sorry guys) or even go to the local card shop. Go to the Library and read a book (non Magic)...go see a movie...buy some hygene products (you know who you are)...DO ANYTHING NON MAGIC related...This has worked for me on several occasions.
(Quick Note)- Since Im a newbie - I didn't know if this post was too long...I might have submitted this as an article but Im ignorant to the "rules" so If Im taking up too much room, my apologies.-----
So---what Im trying to say is this...re-evaluate Magic, look for the goodness and purity of the GAME. Try not to complain too much, and if you do..offer some solutions...it may do wonders.
Nicholas Knight--- very happy with Magic.
