It seems the trend of Magic players complaining about the game goes up and down much like the S.Market. One minute everyone is happy with the environment, the next they wanna quit.

I have not seen this attitude here at CPA but I scan alot of Magic sites and right now, it's complaining time. One may not see many rants coming from Pro players since they have it easy, sorta...while less competitive players simply choose not to get caught up in the angst of Magic...BUT theres the people in-between. Im one of them and so are an awful lot of my friends and fiends. It all depends on your history of Magic, win/losses, experience and overall attitude.

Why complain? Whats to gain UNLESS you contriubute a solution. I know we live in a free rant infested country but DO something about it.

ISSUES; What to play at Regionals..(Remember folks--if you dont play competitively then most of you might not understand.)---Regionals opens up discussions about how the field of decks (Tier one) are limited to maybe 4 MAX...those being CounterRebel, Fires (& variants), Fish and NetherGo....when theres no clear choice people are bound to complain. The flip side is if there IS a choice people start to say that theres no Metagame, no fun..blah blah blah.

My proposed solution is this.- Play with what you know and really LIKE. Don't go with whats popular or which has the highest win %...sure we all like to win but when you choose something that your not used to your cheating yourself and will most likely perform at sub-par. I personally know several locals in KC that have changed thier REG decks over 5 times in the course of a month...and Ill wager they won't do squat- come REG time.

ISSUE 2- Magic has become less fun, more of a headache. This would be what I call Magic Down Syndrome- A player gets burnt out on playing week in week out, they cruise the net for the latest tech, read all the John Friggin Rizzo articles PLUS the Archives...they sort cards in the late eve, they miss important family events just to attend a tournament. One minute they LOVE the game, the next- HATE IT.

SOLUTION- Stop and smell the card sleeves. Stop playing Magic for ONE week...yes I know thats hard to do but It works. Don't go to MerdianMagic, CPA (sorry guys) or even go to the local card shop. Go to the Library and read a book (non Magic)...go see a movie...buy some hygene products (you know who you are)...DO ANYTHING NON MAGIC related...This has worked for me on several occasions.

(Quick Note)- Since Im a newbie - I didn't know if this post was too long...I might have submitted this as an article but Im ignorant to the "rules" so If Im taking up too much room, my apologies.-----

So---what Im trying to say is this...re-evaluate Magic, look for the goodness and purity of the GAME. Try not to complain too much, and if you do..offer some solutions...it may do wonders.

Nicholas Knight--- very happy with Magic.

It's human nature to complain about any and everything.

Without something to bitch about, then you have nothing to compare to the "good" things in your life.

Without something to compare to the "good" things, then you have no idea whether or not your life is worthwhile.

Magic is no different. You would be hard-pressed to find ANYONE that does not have something disagreeable to say about any subject they may be involved in, be it polotics, sport or food, and regardless of how much they claim to love that subject. There will always be something that a person wishes were "better" then what they have now.

TeamRegime: Were you around in the days of the Dojo? Everyone complained then... heck, that's how the CPA got started, because people complained about 6th rules and the Waylay errata.

It's true not a lot goes on here, but it happens. Mostly when sets come out or the spoilers. The curious thing to see is if the SAME people complain over and over again. Because let's face it, Magic isn't going to please everyone. One may have liked the fast pace of Rath and so hate the current environment while there's someone else who's vice versa.

Yes,complaining is the standard of human devolopment. People started complaining about spending all of the earth's fuel being starved, so they invented ways to harness nuclear energy. That's just one example! All inventions were made because of complaints.

..man!

We all b***h...for many reasons. We could have a desire for something that is forbidden to us, so we b***h - a sigh to relief. We could be in complete frustration, so we b***h - it's a temporal medicine. We b***h about everything, just because it doesn't appeal to US...

...some people don't care about the fact that most everyone is satisfied - no - they just b***h.

Some just b***h to make some kind of point. Some b***h to stand out from the crowd. Some just b***h for fun.

All in all, this thread you started is b***hin' about how people b***h.

It, like Rando said, is Human Nature. :)

Yep, you might say we were founded by the DCI's idiocy ;)

I b**ch whenever I feel like it. If you look at some of my threads, you know I like to talk and b**ch. I'll b**ch about black's lack of power, then I'll b**ch at the lack of Pie in more recent threads. Then someone else will b**ch that I'm living in the past about pie, then Isty will come by and b**ch with me about the lack of pie, then he'll b**ch at me that black is good, then Gizmo will come and b**ch, then I'll b**ch, then Isty'll b**ch, then Giz will b**ch, and that was just one thread too.

Then you go to Off-Topic and Mr Tree-Hugger Multani will b**ch, and then ademis will have a bit of poetry to say instead of some b**ching, then Duke will bring in some of his own poetry and do some b**ching, then I'll b**ch and tell them all to shut up, then Spiderman will come and b**ch that Riva was using the word b**ch without the asterisks, and then the thread will turn into a bunch of b**ching spam.

And then we'll all laugh at how fun we all are to talk to, despite all of our b**ching. You know, the word b**ch really isn't a very good word to say. Now wait for Spidey to come and yell at us all for using the word b**ch too many times in one post. D'oh.

And of course, there's only one way to end a post.

Pie.

...must say, I enjoyed reading that post, Cateran Emperor. :)

One thing though, Istanbul b***hes 'bout everythin' man! His whole world is one big, fat b***h! :D

Or how about Almindhra, she's Magic's B***h herself! She knows she likes to b***h, and she's a b***h enough to admit it too! I admire the b***h in her.

Even Zadok b***hes sometimes! 'Bout Greater Good'n'all. He'd be b***h 24/7. ;)

Chaos Turtle b***hes about how good lookin' b***h he is. Read his latest signature before he changes it: it's one big b***hin' about how b***hy he is.

Everyone b***hes...it's like the other universal language.

"Yell, yell yell... oh forget it"

One thing: DCI "idiocy"? I think most people/Founders thought Waylay didn't need a ruling, when it was clearly evident it did. I think I was the small minority on that one ;)

I was definately of the opinion Waylay needed a fix. I thought the one provided was hasty and idiotic, removing important options from the card. What was wrong with "remove these tokens from the game at the beginning of any turn?" AFAICT, that was a PERFECT option.

As for screaming and yelling at the world, it's important and fun. If you don't rant, you'll often never seen the other side of your arguments, since you'll only be listening to yourself! Furthermore... Debate is the ultimate challenge. Can you defend your thoughts, or are you just working on instinct? That's why I rant. For thought.

Look, I'm Jewish. The Jewish holiday Passover ends tomorrow. The basis is, we got freed from slavery in egypt and wandered in the desert 40 years to get to the promised land.

And we kvetched all the way there, according to the bible.

(Ku-ve-ch): 1: Complain or whine 2: Someone who complains or whines)

You know, I'm used to magic players whining, but I'm generally pretty content. I think most people here are. That's one of the cool things about this site.

There is probably a difference between "constructive complaining/criticism" where you offer improvements, and simple whining which does not endear one to most other people...
