rkoelsch: You meant Merieke ri Berit or something. But if that untaps, the creature dies. Isn't there a card called The Wretched that could help here? It can somehow gain control of creatures, and it's mono-black.

Peacekeeper from Weatherlight might be useful to forestall attacks.

Aku Djinn + Ensnaring Bridge = Combat generally never happens...now I can focus on my *real* kill method.

If I put two Black Markets in the deck, then find a way to use the mana, maybe in a Millstone type effect or Whetstone -- I can get double duty from the Altar of Dementias, thereby decking the opponent faster.

Ensnaring Bridge... I like that one. Now to get mine back!

TICM: I think the Wretched only gets black and green? creatures, and only when they're blocking it (or some restriction like that). So unless you throw in cards to force your opponent to comply with The Wretched's abilities, it's probably not worth it.

About creature stealing with Rays and Reins: What about good 'ol Control Magic or Confiscate? Or is the intent just to have them as instants and temporarily?
