That sucks, Isty. Are you sure that's the best number of your ISP to call? Some have numbers expressly set up for 56K modems (mine has around 4 in my area and 2 are for 56K; I usually connect at 53K).

From what BigBlue says, they're only putting Standard cards in. So if you want to play with the older cards, you can still use Apprentice. Plus, it's still free (as opposed to how much the points for Magic Online will be).

I haven't used it yet but I stuck it in my white deck for casual play to see how it would go (might be able to see it in action this Thursday).

Do you have chat software? If so, log on to a server there and see what it says your IP is and if it matches up with the wincinig or whatever.
