Have to say, none of that's happened in my games with Baldur's Gate, unless I put evil characters with good characters or ran out of healing spells or just don't have good armor to begin with (and never had anyone run away since once you add them to your party, you effectively control them). :)

Well, I honestly suggest giving one of Bioware's games a try. I think they adhere pretty good to the ideas of D&D. In the Baldur's Gate series, you make one character and meet NPCs along the way while in the Icewind Dale series, you make an entire party of six, I think.

How do you figure? Can you explain? I think it depends on the circumstances. People coming ashore and "melting" into the city and whatnot is a bit different from people being "processed " and going through the official channels by getting visas or whatever.

Ferret: I think they had a good coach with Marty; look what he's done with his current team. It's more the players and like I said, their inability to mesh together and make plays. Probably the first problem right off the bat is that they really don't have a decent quarterback... :)

I think one of the main reasons Ed switched the colors was that no one really does a black background anymore (or at the time), at least not for a forum type setting. It made some smilies and others colors hard to see.

No, though I've heard about it. I don't have a lot of time so I have to be selective in my games. I'm also trying to finish Baldur's Gate. Future games that interest me are Stronghold: Crusader, Age of Mythology, and Warlords IV.
