It depends when and how you define "self-destruct". Urza's was '98, Masques was '99. I think the Dojo went under for good mid-2000 or so, because this site was started during the Dojo (mid-99) and I joined January 2000 and I still belonged to the Dojo forums at that time.

I think it's mainly the new posters: jorael, Limited, CO, and Crackdown that have stimulated discussion here. Ed's redesign (or rather, upgrading) was just coincidence. But it's the new posters that has driven deck and Magic discussions and have contributed to the front page.

I agree that sets always collapse in here, but in this particular case, I think it was the lack of leadership. Most other sets were just efforts between two or less people where leadership didn't matter.

I thought at the time of MTGO's release that they weren't using cards from older sets because of individual card rules and programming considerations, but I also thought one of them was Clone and it got reprinted. So I'm not sure now why they don't start doing older sets online...
