Magic School . . . How to Play vs. Counters

No, Spidey, not the 80's techno-Pop group  But one would have know before hand if they're playing against a counter magic deck. The deck(s) I'll be writting about are counter magic decks that can deal with lots of different kinds of deck archetypes, not geared/tuned towards just...

    Proposed MP Official Rules

GASP's Multiplayer Magic League is by no means a 'model' for a DCI tournament level multiplayer format, but it does work and the members generally enjoy it. If anyone in our group has tried to take advantage of the setting it has been me. My first game in the old "Rogue League" (now defunct but...

    8th Edition is...

Agreed. As for purchasing; I make an effort to purchase at least one box of boosters of the current core set and I don't buy it for "Power Cards", I get them specifically FOR the chaff cards like I mentioned above. Okay, WoG in not chaff, but you get the point. Also, I can't promte this...

Magic School . . . How to Play vs. Counters

I said something like that 50 posts ago!

    8th Edition is...

We've had this discussion before but I can't remember in what section or when. But 8th Ed. is supposed to be the new "Starter" or "Portal" or whatever. It's supposed to be "dumbed down" as an entry level game. Also, try drafting or playing "Sealed" with 8th Ed it's so much fun, talk about yer...

The question of questions: What is casual?

So, on paper, my name exists, but in reality it doesn't? Cool, my new non-existent name is "PhlArbLub"

The question of questions: What is casual?

We're being "pigeon-holed" and the worst part about it is, I agree. The definitions are quite interesting and are accurate to some extent. Hi. My name is Mark (ALL: "Hi Mark") I'm a Tournament-Casual player. DÛke is my savior,......NOT! However, I would like to thank him for doing a...

Genju of the Fields: Just How Good Is It?

Now, how about combo-ing it with that black enchantment that gives you black mana during your main phase for each counter on it (I think it accumulates, too).

The question of questions: What is casual?

As with anyone who writes passionately about any topic you have to, as a reader, have the ability to be able to differentiate the intelligible from the benign. So I wouldn't get too carried away with non-sensical matters such as interpreting what others think about you and or others you...

The question of questions: What is casual?

I have always felt that I walk in a grey twilight ebbing in and out of "casual" play and "tournament" play philosophy.

Genju of the Fields: Just How Good Is It?

Okay, slowly walk me through this again: 1) I have a plains card enchanted with Genju ot Fields 2) I use two mana to activate it and the plains card now becomes a 2/5 creature and has the triggered ability "Whenever this creature deals damage, you gain life equal to that damage." 3) I attack with...

    Less "Cannot be Regenerated"

420.5. The state-based effects are as follows: 420.5a A player with 0 or less life loses the game. 420.5b A creature with toughness 0 or less is put into its owner’s graveyard. Regeneration can’t replace this event.

The question of questions: What is casual?

#1 - You CAN do anything, but I think what DÛke is saying is that it 'nets' zero points in the 'win' column. And what's the point of that? What if I wanted to see if I can get City of Brass and Ghazbahn Ogre off on turn one? I could do it, but what do I gain? Zip! yeah, it would make my friends...

The question of questions: What is casual?

Okay, I get WHAT you're saying, but numbers 1, 2, 3 & 6 seem like you're choosing your environment and making it most optimal for YOU! I know that is NOT your intent, your intent is to have integrity while playing. But let's say that I, too, use numbers 1, 2, 3 & 6 for choosing MY environment...

The question of questions: What is casual?

When I play in a game of Magic I like to "win". In fact, when I sit down to play in any format, I fully expect to win. Moosman can vie for me, I do play with some "good" decks that I have both won and lost with and I have some bad decks (although I don't build decks to lose) that I won and lost...

Magic School . . . How to Play vs. Counters

"How do you make a deck that WRECKS counter magic decks?" ~or~ "How can you make your own deck but have some cards that help improve your chance against a counter magic deck?" (Gizmo sorta answered this question already with including instant spells and such to your deck).

Magic School . . . How to Play vs. Counters

Has this been an 'effective' form of strategy for you? I don't know a better answer from myself but I would be inclined to think that holding cards and biding my time maybe the way to go. With the "runnunig him out of counters" method even if he DOES start to run low a simple Wrath of God will...
