Well, the mana curve for Ice Age block isn't particularly higher or lower than it was when the format was new (as far as I know).

If by "nice" you mean "totally mediocre" then yes. I think I have all of those cards and use none of them... Even in Ice Age block, they aren't particularly great. Serrated Arrows might be useful as creature removal in the right situation, but it's still not all that good... Merchant Scroll is...

I think the idea is that it's something you might not realize you could do. It's a very situational "trick." This doesn't mean it's actually all that useful (let alone good).

I guess you COULD look at it that way. That doesn't mean it is a particularly great idea. Firstly, the imagination that goes along with a game is not the same type of pretending as using proxies. They are only related in that they are both "pretending" which is not much of a connection. And...

I think that many of them don't see the younger/newer players, and because many of their friends have quit, and fewer people in their own age groups are joining, they get the impression that Magic is now less popular. I don't know how many casual players this happens with, but I have seen it...
