    National Gaming Day

I work at my library. That I haven't heard anything about this suggests to me that we're not among the libraries participating (odd, because if we're not, the rest of the system probably isn't either, and since we're supposedly the second largest library system in the nation, one would think...

    Party "A" and Party "B"

Yes, it has nothing to do with race. But I don't see anything magical about race that means issues outside of it aren't cut and dried. Yeah, that seems about right. Maybe 30 years. Maybe a bit more. Probably not less.

    Hall o' Shame Nominations: Alliances

Heh. I can definitely see a case for putting "worst" in quotation marks. Homelands gets a bad rap, but most of the cards in it are just mediocre, not ridiculously awful. I am curious as to what card will be selected as the worst of the bunch, though...

No Images-Restriction Lifted on Some Members?

I recall reading a story about a website where a graphic of some sort was used without the owner's permission in one place and made it onto a MySpace deal where people were using it on their MySpace pages. When the guy running the original site realized what was sucking up his bandwidth, he...

    Michael Crichton's passing...

Yeah, the movie adaptation was kind of lame. I only went to see it because Audrey Tautou was in it. She was good, of course, but the rest--not so much.

    Party "A" and Party "B"

How long are you talking about? It's obviously going to be an issue in the near future. That's inevitable. Eventually it will go the way of anti-miscegenation laws and Jim Crow laws.

    Hall o' Shame Nominations: Alliances

It was printed before Alliances. I thought we were doing these in chronological order... Well, Thought Lash is a crap rare. Moreso than any other card in this set. So I can see why there'd be disdain for it. Really, this is a testament to how good of a set Alliances was. Even Thought Lash is...

    Hall o' Shame Nominations: Alliances

Did we just skip Homelands, infamous as the worst set in the history of the game?

    Michael Crichton's passing...

The only Dan Brown book I read was The Da Vinci Code. I had low expectations from the start because it was kind of hyped and was mildly impressed. Maybe not to my taste or something, but I didn't think there was anything inherently bad about the writing.

    Michael Crichton's passing...

I read Congo and it was decent, although from what I've heard the movie is nothing like it. The movie The Andromeda Strain seemed alright too, so maybe I should read that book...

    Party "A" and Party "B"

As in the only language that can be used in official state business, right? If it's actually forbidden to use other languages in the buildings themselves, that's unconstitutional. I was looking through that New York Times article, and when I got to the end, I did this:  WTF Florida?

    Vote!

My father said, about my vote choices for both president and governor: "I thought I raised you better than that."

Hall of Shame Vote: Ice Age

It also hoses every other card that takes advantage of lands being snow-covered. I don't know how many there are, but every single one is better than Snowfall. And like I already mentioned, I consider Snowfall worse than Great Wall because Great Wall will sit there indefinitely. Even if all...

Hall of Shame Vote: Ice Age

Why would you play regular Islands if you know that Snowfall is in your deck? Also, that's dubious usage of the word "effective."

D&D: Horror on the Hill: Beginnings

*Retrieves any unbroken arrows. Also, I'd like to do an arrow count for all of our bowmen just to see what kind of shape we're in for keeping up our firepower in fights like these, as they seem to be pretty numerous.*

In for the long haul or not.

Oh man, that deck was/is awesome. That's too bad about it being hard to find.

Hall of Shame Vote: Ice Age

Not just "probably." That's all it can do. If it didn't have its own cumulative upkeep, then sure, it could keep Illusionary Forces out longer. It could still hypothetically do that with lots and lots of Snow-covered Islands out. But with lots and lots of Snow-covered Islands out, you're going...

Hall of Shame Vote: Ice Age

Like what? Lessening the effect of an opponent's Power Surge?

D&D: Horror on the Hill: Beginnings

*Continue trying to pick them off with arrows.*

In for the long haul or not.

Sure. I'd use a collector's edition Mox Sapphire as a proxy for the real thing in a proxy tournament rather than just a Plains with "Mox Sapphire" written on it if given the choice. It's cooler. But I remember seeing a collector's edition Mox Sapphire selling for $40. I wasn't even willing to...
