It is often the over-worked and under-paid folks who really make the difference in all that they do, you, ED, are one of those people. I am enjoying the changes.

I seem to have a weird problem. On my pc at home, I can't see the posts! I can see the thread starter, the icon to the left of the thread, but no words in the thread box! I thought maybe I needed to login, but the site already knew who I was.

Any suggestions? I'm running IE 4.0 at home, 5.5 at work. Is this the problem?

I can reply again! Yippee!

Anyway, I've never been closer to cursing someone out on this board than I was with Hetemti (though it turned out I couldn't post anyway). C'mon! How can you talk to Ed (or anyone else) like that, considering all he's done for this site? There would be no site without him!

And to anyone who doesn't like the changes, think about this: this site looks better than many corporate sites on the internet. And they pay people lots of money to do the stuff Ed does for free.

Give him a break. And use Netscape.

Here, Here. The Baron might have had the initial idea, but it has been Mike doing all of the web matinance, I can assure you that if my brother was the one who had to design this site the CPA would still be just a thought, and while I can't say that for the rest of the founders, I'm pretty sure that none of us could, or would put in the time, and dedication that this site needs. If anything Mike should be considered the god of the CPA, and it would be a sad day if the father of this site left this baby.

I guess I'm with the majority on this one...

(Sorry, I'm jumping around here)

And use Netscape.
Actually, they're gone now. :) You can go back to using IE.

I don't think you can say that creating a board that is the home of hundreds of people is not fulfilling.
When I don't read 99% of the threads here, I think I could say it's not.

...and all the work he put into the Post Reply screen to turn it into a mini-Word Processor.
Oh, it could go a hell of a lot further, but I find it becoming more of a pain than anything else if I did that.

I assume you mean on the forum display page right? It's probably just bad HTML that I'll have to fix, but if you could do me a favor and view the source of the page when you get the problem and email me the code (as an attachment please) to webmaster@esuitetoday.com.

I don't know if this would be helpful or not, but...

When I was using "Guard Dog" (an internet privacy program) I also was unable to see the posts, exactly as Mr. Pestilence described.

It wasn't a cookie problem (since this site was one of few allowed to send me cookies) just something the program wasn't allowing me to do.

Mr. P, are you using a privacy program?

I realize that this info is sketchy at best, but maybe it could help you brainstorm into possible soultions. :)

I apollogize.

I was rather pissed off at a veritable cornucopia of troubles that have befallen me at the time, and I went...over the top...

...however, I thought it was understood that I tend to employ melodramatic language and rather...ostentatious...assaults on that which I dislike. Obviously my rant was taken for more than it was intended to be.

When I am asked my oppinion of a change, I'm gonna be honest. I'm going to say what changes I noticed. Now, what will I notice first? Difficulties in telling what the heck the rillizando happened to the thread icons, or a spellchecker. ...hmmm...

Anyway, sorry for being a jack-ass. I'll go away now.

...and if I didn't, so what?

Now, only one problem:

2.0 seems to have a problem parsing url's.

In a post I just did, the address turned invisible and the rest of my post became a link.

Ofcourse. I have no idea why, I just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks!

The ranter, I know the feeling, when I was first here I was a real jackass, so I was given a warning, and it was then that I realized that some people take everything seriously. So my advise to you is be like me, sheath the bladed tongue before you're like Dakkon, and get blocked from the boards. 'Cause let me tell you, not being able to come to the CPA is a major slap in the face.

I think Ed is slightly overreacting. When DG was gone from mtgnews.com, people called DG "a slow moron", accussed him of "looking at porn the whole time", and claimed "this site is a peice of $#*+". And that was just from half a page out of the 38 pages of complaints with similar attitudes.

My point is that people will complain no matter what. And you can do one of three things about it - ignore it, like DG does, send a complaint to (or block) the ISP (or IP address), as is (or would be if it could be) practiced on the rec.games.trading-cards.magic.* hiercharcy on usenet, or let it win.

If profit is the only reason you run this site, then maybe you should have more ads? mtgnews.com seems to have adopted a similar strategy.

In any case, I personally, like the new layout. It may take some time to get used to, but it isn't bad, and I think that once Hetemti gets used to it, he will like it just as much, if not more, than he liked the other one. In a way, it is flattery - he cared enough about the last layout to defend it, at all costs, I guess...

I don't think Ed was overreacting at all. Maybe DG is stoic in the face of such stupid insults, but can you honestly say that you or any other average person would take such abuse without response?

Here, you really seem to have it all wrong. He is not doing it for profit at all. That's the point. MTGnews, in part, operates for profit. It is in DG's best interest to keep readers, and not ban them. Ed is just doing this out of the goodness of his heart. He has no personal interest in keeping people here. If they don't appreciate him, and insult him, why would he bother doing it?

Okay, I don't quite understand what everyone is complaining about. All I see is the web site I love, with a bit more to love. For how long have we been nagging Ed that this site needed a spell checker for goofs like myself and squee who couldn't spell if our lives depended on it? Of course people aren't going to like the site initially after a major change (i.e.From Black/Orange, to Blue/Off-White). But the this is just a couple of additions for crying out loud! Ed is not in it for the money, help we're a non-profit organization, that's why it is www.casualplayers.ORG!
If the people who accuse Ed of being in it for the money can't get that through their head, then they can SHUT UP!

Getting tired of the whiners...

Uhh... org != non-profit. :)
It just means organization, and there's no strict enforcement of the groupings (com, net, org), like there is in Austrailia (you have to be a business to get a .com.au, etc)

And apparently there's even MORE domain names that have been approved for use, but I haven't actually seen them widespread (like .kids).

How do you get a domain name extension registered, and become the sole propioter of it, like spot.cc?
or what about have it so when you type in a domain that doesn't exist with your domain extension you are fowarded to another site, asking you if you want to buy that domain, like the .tv thingies do?

When a moderator/administrator unsticks it.

In this case, when Ed unsticks it.

yawnmoth: For your first question, I believe to register a name you have to apply for it at one of the couple of domain-registering sites (one is in Virginia, not sure where the other one is). I don't know if that's just US or international, but it's probably just US.

I'm not sure I understand your second question, but it sounds like a redirection type thing and so it's probably html coded at the original page redirecting you to the second page, but I don't really know.
