Okay, I finally remembered I was supposed to start a new game this week :rolleyes: Hands have been PMed and we are going to try public bidding. So instead of PMing your bid, wait your turn here in the thread and post your bid when you've gotten a chance to see what the players before you bid.

The order for round 1 is:

EricBess
TomB
rkoelsch
train
Jigglypuff

So everyone wait until EricBess posts his bid and then go in turn.

The trump is HEARTS - the 2 was burned.

Sorry... I PMed you before reading this thread...

Also - as public bidding goes throughout the game - if we have a nil bid - should we still wait?..

(Just thinking of things to speed the game up... wouldn't want to wait on someone bidding nil...)

Yes, we still need to wait for someone to post their nil bid, because it could potentially affect how someone following them bids. If you've got a couple of Kings, for example, or a couple of low trump cards, and the people bidding in front of you chose to bid 1, or none, you might want to take a chance and raise your bid accordingly.

Which could, of course, backfire...;)

As far as variant ideas go, have you ever thought about playing the game more like Spades, or Pinochle, where we'd deal all the cards out each hand, then publicly bid how many tricks we think we'd take. The bidding would go until no one wants to raise it anymore, then the player that wins the bid chooses trump and we'd play the hand out.

Of course, then everyone that didn't win the bid would work to mess up the person that did win it, so it'd probably take forever to determine a winner and finish the game. Hmmm...

Hey - do you think we should wait and see if we can find a 6th player to join up in this game? Did anyone else express any interest?

No one else expressed an interest, although I don't know if that's because no one actually wanted to or they forgot. Five people is a pretty good number though.

I'm content to watch from the sidelines... Although we just decided to put off building our addition until next spring, so I won't be as AWOL as I'd thought...

Actually, Spidey if you want to play, I could run this...

Oddly enough it is the same order of players... :D With Spidey last.

And even more odd it is the same trump (of course that's a little worse than a 1 in 4 shot, so no real surprise).

Order of Players is:

Trump card was the 3 of Hearts .

Also if someone wants to PM me their bid beforehand (including any flags, I'll take them to try to keep the flow of the bid).

By the By...

when I say Flags, I mean you can say My bid is Foo, unless Bar happens (it is Zero to me or 3 to me - meaning 3 was the total bid before you) If Bar does happen, then I'll let you make your own bid. I guess I'll play it by ear for now... :D

I will be out of town on Thu and Fri...

I have all but 2 bids in so far for rd 1... I have 1 bid in for rd 2 (however the two non bidders haven't gotten their rd 2 cards yet)

I will be around Fri evening, so if anything changes by then I'll get updates out...

We're basically waiting on EricBess though, right? And he said he was still going to be pretty busy... so really, no worries here.

I also have Spidey's bid... Once I get Jigglypuffs, I'll settle the score for this round and everyone will have their cards for the second round.
