so the set should be out sometime during August.

Besides Birds... any old versions of the new ones are hot to have...

Not just the prerelease cards are out the 26th/27th...

Stores have already ordered their supplies for 8th/10th ann. tourneys... and will be using these supplies at these releases...

I didnt think the thing was a pre-release, I just thought it was a party to celebrate magics 10th year.

I remember something on the wizards site saying it was coming out in july, and if this party is indeed not a pre-release, then 8th should come out either the day of the party, or some day before it.

Am I right?

If it works like an expansion pre-release, aren't the cards available the day of but legal in tourneys a month later?

I believe WOTC said 8th won't be legal until Sept. 1st(?)...

But it is more like a party - I don't know it to be a pre-release...

Do they have pre-releases for "core" sets?...

I don't remember any...

No, they don't have prereleases of core sets. And this really isn't so much of a prerelease. It is spread out at local shops. It's more like a "sneak peek weekend" than a prerelease
