This topic is somewhat an offshoot of svenmonkey's animal rights thread, but I might as well ask it.

What do you think of whaling?

Don't know much about it, but my understanding is that most of the whale species being hunted are in decline.

Don't know how many cultures depend on it either, but some countries like Japan probably doesn't need to do it.

Whaling was okay back in the day, but now that we're capable of destroying the whole species, we should stop, and, in fact, are stopping.

Besides, who eats whale meat anyway?

That's what I'm saying, I don't know how many if any cultures are still dependent on it.

Like Eskimos or something.

There are a few eskimo tribes that still depend on whaling... but they're phasing out of it.

didn't early colonists or 1600's Europeans use blubber for there oil lamps

arhar, you would eat anything.
Some Eskimo tribes still do depend on whales. However, a whole village can subsist for a year with just one or two whales. They use every part of the whale. They do not kill as many whales as whaling does.
