Valentine's Day

Nothing Special
I just wanted to see what everyone else does for Valentine's Day.

My wife works until 8 tonight, so we probably won't go out or anything. I took her to Taco Bell on Saturday for what we jokingly called Valentine's dinner, but I'll probably get her flowers and make her a real dinner tonight.

I generally think V-Day is a ridiculous holiday (insert standard bitching about greeting card companies here), but the ladies still like to feel special, so I accept my role. And maybe I'll get some tonight. ;)

Taking an ex girlfriend to dinner.. how weird is that?

Edit: And I agree with the whole fake-holiday thing (what are we celebrating? The birth of Hallmark or something) but I'll play my part.

We are celebrating one of the last two "Saint's" days... St Valentine, and St Patrick....

Well, I guess some of us celebrate "St Nicholas", but I don't think the 25th of Dec was his day... Some more orthodox countries still celebrate a lot more of the "saints" days...

And, as a single guy with no life.... not a damn thing comes to me on St Valentines day.... well, I did get an e-card from my mom... but that doesn't really count.... :)

Spidey.... You "got" earrings or you "gave" earrings?

I'm assuming you gave them.... but I was just curious...

Wasn't there something like a St. Valentine's Massacre (mafia game reference)?

Anyway my girlfriend and I cooked italian and will watch a movie at home with chocolates. Nothing special, we do the fancy stuff not on this day.

Happy Hallmark day! (that one made me laugh)

I got earrings to give... (haven't given them yet) :)

Yes, there was a St. Valentine's Massacre... a bunch of mobsters got killed on Valentine's Day... not sure of the specifics though.

Some of Al Capone's men disguised as police officers (I think it was actually that only one or two of the group were disguised as police officers) and apprehended some rival gangsters like they were going to arrest them. So the rival gangsters, thinking these were police officers, did not resist what they thought would be arrest. But Capone's men weren't planning on arresting them at all. It was a lie. The used their guns and shot the deceived gangsters. They shot them a lot.

The end.

I still don't think it should count as a massacre. Only seven men were gunned down. Seven is not a massacre. It should be at least twenty to be a massacre, and I'm being liberal (I do hope HOUTS is reading this :p) in my definition.

A great question.... How many deaths does it take to be a massacre?

What about a Slaughter?

A Bloodbath?

If a serial killer only kills 1 person before getting caught.... is he really a serial killer?

These are the questions which need answering...

On another death note... is there a specific "-icide" for killing one's spouse? Patricide is killing your dad... is it Pesticide? (OK, bad joke there....)

The "St. Valentines' Massacre" probably made for good headlines. But yeah, I would think more people would have to be killed before it really qualifies as a massacre.

Not sure of exact numbers for such terms as massacre, slaughter, or bloodbath :)

And the -icide is probably "spousicide" ;)

A simple question about Valentine's plans turns into a discussion about what technically defines a massacre.

Only at the CPA.

And it starts me thinking about a theme deck that would do the name justice.

Mafia justice that is.

Goblin Sharp-shooter.dec, Orzhov guild, a deck that sacrifices its own creatures (Attrition looks good). Anyone got a flavorful idea? That or we could make Hallmark.dec (wtf!)

How about.... offtopic.dec

Sgt_Slaughter_&_the_ Worms_of_Destruction.dec?

Sorry to hijack your lovely thread about Valentine's day plans... As I said, I did nothing special...

Valentine's day is really just one of the triad of days used by women to torture men... I'm stealing this from a sportstalk guy.... but Christmas, Valentine's, and Birthdays are traps laid by women to make men feel guilty and/or inadequate... we usually either go overboard or underboard...

And the worst thing your wife can tell you is... "Don't get me anything this year." because if you listen to her you are dead, and if you don't you are dead... That's actually worse than "Does this dress make me look fat?"

Oh, and there is a card named Mob Justice.

My fiance' and I celebrated both late in the evening of the 14th (after I got off of work at 11:00 p.m.) and on the 15th.

I got her a box of chocolate kisses, a jumbo Kiss (with the little ones inside) and a pair of stuffed mice that talk (Kiss Me!) when you put thier lips together. Wed, we went on a little trip (200 miles roundtrip) and went hiking in a national forest. Then had a very good dinner at Crackerbarrel. All in all, it made her happy, and that is what it is all about!

That does suck... but anyway you figure it, getting dumped right before or right after or right on, pretty much is a bad scene. There's really no easy time to "get dumped" around a holiday.

I did nothing on Valentine's Day.

However, I believe the term "massacre" is the slaying of multiple unarmed people. Thus, the Kent State Massacre, Boston Massacre, and the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. The "police" told the gangsters to 'drop their weapons.' THEN they shot them. That's why it was a massacre instead of something similar.
