Unexpected movie Hits

Has there ever been a movie that you havn't wanted to see due to some reason, be it Cheesyness (Hulk), cultural differences (Barbershop), orientational differences (Boys Don't Cry), etc, that you sit down and watch with someone (for some reason)...

...and end up thinking the movie is much better than you expected?

Happened today with my little brother begging me to watch Kangaroo Jack. I expected it to be talking Kangaroo DRECK. Apart from the last five minutes, I was wrong, and it was quite hilarious. Recommended for family-friendly viewing. Subtle 'adult' level jokes that go easily over kid's heads.

That's happened to me with Antoine Fisher, that Mel Gibson movie where he can hear women's thoughts, The Princess Diaries...

Kangaroo Jack.. well... I don't really like that actor in it anymore...

He was great in that TV series, Sliders, but I never really liked him after that.

I don't really like most of the actors in Barbershop, or in Barbershop 2, so I never really looked into watching it... Hulk i might like, but I'm not really enthused about a movie that is mostly CG... Same reason why I haven't seen the Spiderman movies.

If you guys want a heads up, why don't you try getting some insight into a little movie I recently dug outta the spam folder:

Alien Vs. Predator

Its supposedly out 8/13/04

Umm... it was a ripoff of a small budget film done in Memphis or Georgia...

Fun little fact there I never really followed.

Ha, weird coincidence... my brother-in-law who gave me Antoine Fisher to watch also gave me Drumline... :)

You ought to see Spiderman Nightstalkers, and I'm not just saying that because it's "my" movie. If it's the CGI effects you don't like, Spiderman is pretty minimal compared to what it could have been or what was in the Hulk (really, pretty much just the web-slinging through the city scenes, which aren't much).

Do you mean the CGI effects for Kirsten Dunst? 'Cause they miss fixing her two front teeth. Nice 'wet shirt in the rain' scene though.

Hey Nighty: Let me tell ya, they're ALL rip-offs. Just that some were paid for and some not.

Yeah, but the ones that were not paid for make the news.

and get the big media attention when someone files an almost hopeless lawsuit.

i've done that with some movies...

KJ - that was a great flick for the family to watch... Of course, we have many of the disney movies as a family, but one I wasn't sure of, and really liked was Texas Rangers.. It's not Tombstone, but is a really close second - with the young guns movies...:D
