U/G survival - help needed

I post this deck because
1) it is cool to play
2) could need improvement
3) uses a cool trick I wanted to share with you (land grant)

You may have noticed if you have read a couple of my threads before that I am a BIG fan of survival of the fittest/recurring nightmare.

I ended up having a 5 color rec-sur deck that was real cool (look up in the archieves if you are interested) but he was too slow for competitive play and TOO slow for MP. It is no fun for your opponent to see you shuffle 3 times per round.

I thought that a UBG version using tradewind riders could be good and moved onto a pure U/G version after reading an article from a "pro"

here is the list :
// spells
4 Survival of the Fittest
2 Gaea's Blessing
2 Force of Will (4 would be better but have only 2)
2 Mana Leak
1 Thwart
1 Foil
4 Counterspell
4 Impulse
1 Whispers of the Muse
// Creatures
3 Tradewind Rider
1 Gilded Drake (AWSOME with the Riders)
1 Man-o'-War
1 Masticore
1 Uktabi Orangutan
2 Vine Trellis (wall of roots would be better but I dont have any)
1 Spike Weaver
1 Spike Feeder
4 Birds of Paradise
2 Quirion Ranger
2 Wall of Blossoms
1 Squee, Goblin Nabob
1 Bottle Gnomes
// Land
4 Land Grant
5 Island
4 Tropical Island
4 Forest

Now you might notice the land grants in the land spot. I did not invent that (I read it somewhere along with a very similar deck).

PLease try it out, I find it AWSOME, because It automatically fetches you the dual lands.

Anyhow, back to the deck. I am at 58 cards and do not know what I should add.

I tried capsize and waterfrount bouncer but the riders usually take care of the business.

I had a morfling but he ended up being "too heavy" for the deck. (the deck is "happy" with 4 lands)

2 more FOW would be cool but hey, I have only 2 !!

Shall I go with more counters or is there a couple of creatures I missed out ?

I tested the deck against RB, WW, enchanteress/ combo deck to great successes.

TRY IT OUT it might surprise you.

I saw a deck alot like that, too. USe Quirion Ranger.

Also, you may want to use ghitu slingers (Though the other one didn't) because they are a potential kill method.

the slingers would force me to go red as well.

I dont think that deck could support another color...

This dude posted this deck on the Mindripper during the first week of October:
4x Survival of the Fittest
4x Force of Will
4x Counterspell
4x Impulse
4x Tradewind Rider
4x Birds of Paradise
2x Fyndhorn Elves
3x Wall of Roots
2x Wall of Blossoms
4x Spike Feeder
2x Spike Weaver
2x Uktabi Orangutan
2x Quirion Ranger
1x Squee, Goblin Nabob
1x Masticore
1x Man-o-War
4x Land Grant
4x Tropical Island
5x Forest
3x Island
I have all the cards for this deck and I played it last week at an extended tournament, I went 1-2.
The deck is GREAT! I just need to improve my playing skills (maybe I should try Peter's "Wakefield 1D6" idea).
I lost to "Jank" and "Secret Force" and both players were veteran's of some years.
However, I did manage to 'Piss' off all of my opponents (a trait I noticed with the deck), I locked down all of my opponents during the first games, forcing them all to conceed, but two of them found quick answers (Tsunami, Incinerate to name a few) in the next two games. Whatever :(
This deck is my new extended deck for the winter and I plan on doing alot of practicing with it, it is, by far, my favorite deck to date (Next to my beloved "Tradewind 5CG" from the Mirage/Tempest T2 era).

Probably your sideboard was sub optimal if you won the first game but lost the following ones.

Gilded drake is realy amazing in there ...

th edeck is real fun and land grant is just plain amazing. Think about what you could do wiht taigas, savannahs and bayous ...

An interesting card in here would be Spontaneous Generation. You will have a ton of cards in your hand and will be able to generate many 1/1 saprolings which you can use with Tradewind rider or as beatdown (b/c they probably won't have much to block with.

If you ran 4 Wall of Blossoms, Stampeeding Wildebeests makes for a nice little combo.

Awakening always works wonders in here.

Raven Familiar (Legacy) is a sweet card drawer/impluser with a bounce engine.

Aluren would be fun, but dangerous as usual.

Sunder will lock them down while you can attack and use your mana creatures.

Hope some of these help.
