What about the Windseeker Centaur - the 2/2 non-tap to attack guy that you got by sending a coupon out of one of the early Magic books?

Centaurs would be lots of fun.

Centaurs are great. Well I terms of fun, they're great. Hopefully
we'll get some more over the next two expansions.


All of the"Recruiter" type guys are some good. I use them in my
Soldier & Kavu decks. My one concern with Dwarves is there
lack of flyer blockers. I can't remember if they have any but I
don't think so. But I bet they would be pretty good as a fast
beatdown Tribe deck. Thanks for the idea.

Squirrels are allow now. Before Squirrel Mob I don't think you
could play that type because they wasn't any "squirrel" creature
type" There are a lot of cards that mentioned squirrel but until
Odyssey it wasn't a legal Tribe. I've given the deck some though
but not enough the figure out a deck.

I'm not sure about what sets are allowed. We play with almost
every set except for Unglued and this week we just decieded to
allow Portal. The cards are basically the same. Portal 1 doesn't
provide the information about what "type" of creature
something is but we just use you own judgement. If it sayes
something like "Junge Lion" it must be a cat. Portal 2 & 3 have
what type they are written on the card.

I totally agree with you. I would allow this if someone ask for
my opinion. If someone can give the rest of us a logical reason
why it fits into the deck, its allowed. That is my opinion.

I gotta run, more later.

Oh ya, post a Hippo deck if they're enough of them.

I saw 4x Royal assassins and 4x Sliver Queen in the King tribe.... Does this mean gorillas are in the same tribe as apes? What about monkeys?

That's how we would play it. Things like Simian Grunts, Kird Ape,
Gorilla Titan, Tree Monkey(Portal 2 or 3?), Uktabi`O, Gorilla
Shaman should all count in a "Planet of the Apes" Tribe.


My brother even made a Elephant deck that is/was pretty good.
Assault/Battery, Elephant Ambush, that Odyssey Elephant-Wurm,
and such. It can apply the beats. Its pretty weak against flyers
but pretty good none the less.

He built a Squid tribe. I looks like a lot of fun.

I was gad to see that Torment gave me enough Centaur's do
complete that tribe. It's still pretty weak but its all about having
fun when your playing this format.

Now I'll have to work on Nightmare's, Minion's and Horror's.( Idea's welcome!)

I've been thinking about a "folk" Tribe too. If I squeeze the rules
there are several "folk"(Mer"folk", Tree"folk", Scavenger "folk",
Towns"folk" and so on. The biggest problem is figuring out which
"folk" are worth playing. Any thoughts?

Do you mean combining all of the "folk" into a deck, like a merfolk here and treefolk there?

It's seems that what you mentioned in three colors already and I don't remember much about townsfolk except for Icatian Moneychanger :) I guess a list would have to be put together to see what's actually out there :)

It certainly needs work.
The only non-Licid card that I thought might work would be Illicit Auction, and that's pushing it.

I don't know, I think if "Folk" were a tribe, Scavenger Folk would be the only members in it :)

Of what you listed (Thanks!), it just seems you can have Treefolk, Merfolk, or Townsfolk as tribes as themselves but can't combine them.

The Whole "folk" thing is kind of weak to begin with. By using 7th
Edition card text Scavanger Folk are Satyr now, so that will not
even work. The way I understand the rules, if there is atleast
one creature of a "type" then you can use similiar cards to fill
out the deck. I'm not a 100% sure that's right but thats how I've
come to understand it. Anyway,.. its pointless, I don't see any
good/fun/playable deck out of those cards. I'm sure someone
creative could but come up with something but it beyond me....

Treefolk and Merfolk work ok, I've tryed them.

Thanks for the idea. That decks great. Very original. I didn't
think a Licid deck would be worth the trouble , but hay,.. you
proved me wrong.:D

Oh ya, Illicit Auction, would be a legal tribe card for the deck.

I kind of wish WoTc would have another casual deckbuilding
contest. I'd send in several Tribe decks in hopes one of them
would be picked. Or maybe we could hold a contest? If anyone
is willing to do this please let me know. I'd be willing to donate
my foil Nemata, Grove Guardian as a prize.

I was thinking we could do it like before. Someone start a new
Tribes contest thread and after a few weeks we all vote on our
favorite deck and the one with the most votes is the winner.

How about this:

1. If no one objects March 1st 12 noon could be the deadline.
2. The decks should be somewhat original.
3. Rebels are a shoe-in for a good deck but.................
4. I'll donate my foil Nemata as a prize.

Okay, why don't you start the thread in Voting (get that forum used :) ) and repost/copy-paste what has to go in a Tribes deck. We'll have one post per deck so if an entry doesn't meet the criteria, I can delete it. And add whatever else you think is necessary (like the 4 things you just mentioned).

I had a question while I design my deck. Say I was designing an Angel tribe, can I use holy as a synonym for angelic and use 4 holy strengths or am I limited to things angelic?

Thats a tough one. I'm not a 100% sure. Here one of the rules
concerning the tribeness of a card.

There will always be the misanthrope who tries and bend these rules:
He will say "Ants" are his tribe, then stuff his deck full of ANTS, instANTS,
enchANTments, giANTS and plANTS. This has to be foiled, and that is done
by this rule: The name of your tribe that appears on the card has to include
the the meaning of the name of your tribe. For example: the ant in enchantment
doesn’t mean "tiny little insect that steals the show in A Bug’s Life." And the
monk in Crimson Kobolds doesn’t mean ‘inhabitant of a monastery,’ either.
(Still searching for the monk? It’s in ‘summon kobold.’)


I'm kind of in a pickle. Holy is religious but is it angelic? I looked up
Holy in Webster's but it didn't say thing about Angelic. But all of
the references were somewhat angelic in nature. So I looked up
Angelic and it didn't say anything about Holy.

I'm not sure.

Following the above rule (" The name of your tribe appears "ON"
the card has to include the meaning of the name of your tribe.) I
would not consider it a tribe card.

If anyone disagree's with this feel free point out the flaw in my
understanding of the rule.
