It needs something to say "blocking it", and not just all blockers...

I missed that earlier also...

Do any cards in the Basic Set have reminder text? I seem to recall from one of last week's Ask Wizards that the Basic Set isn't supposed to have reminder text...

It could just have the word "trample" on the card with no reminder text...

In fact, we could do away with reminder text altogether...

If people are smart, they won't need reminder text...

And if they're stupid, they'll think that the "walls can't attack" reminder text is an ability on the card which can negate my Rolling Stones. Yes that actually happened once...

That's what I was wondering about. If the basic set isn't supposed to have reminder text, then trample wouldn't have any.

Although it probably needs it, in which case would mean that it won't make it into the basic set... :(

Holy crap, Isty!  That is by far ultra-succinct, and looks like it'll work, except for the point train made. So, how about...

Trample (Damage equal to all blockers' combined toughness must be assigned to creatures blocking this creature. Extra damage may be assigned to the defending player.)

Oversoul - Trample needs reminder text, at least that's WotC's latest stance. In fact, they set the requirement that trample have reminder text in order for it to come back. They're just having trouble coming up with a succinct way or doing so, for an ability that has a ton of nuances. Although, I think Istanbul's idea comes very close to something that could actuall work.

Spiderman - Actually, the Core Set is supposed to have reminder text. Flying will still have reminder text, according to that article. This is because the Core Set is meant to be a slightly more brainy Portal, which can still act as a set of staple cards for tourneys and casual players.

And my latest stance is that we destroy WotC and reminder text with it...

Reminder text on black-border expansions is definitely silly. I say to hell with it!

However, new players sorta need it. I agree with WotC that it has its place in the Core Set. The problem is, they are really excessive with it. Do walls and flying really need reminder text? Doubtful.

I think the whole point though was whether trample was coming back to 9th, a basic set, not the Core Set.

Unless the Core Set is a subset of the basic set?

Here:

Core Game: Current starter game. The little intro box for beginners with a pile of useless cards, a CD, and instruction kits that are in no way helpful rulebooks. A "Beginner" product.

Core Set: The current white-bordered main edition of the game. As defined retroactively, all main sets, from Alpha/Beta, Unlimited, Revised, all the way to Eighth Edition and soon Ninth Edition, are considered Core Sets. An "Advanced" product.

The Core Set is something WotC believes to be the appropriate learning tool for beginners. Once they learn the game with the Core Game, they are expected to purchase Core Set cards to learn how the game actually works. From there, they can purchase expansions, which are considered "Expert" products.

ugh. The "Core"s are too similiar.

So do the Core Game cards come from the Core Set?

I guess if the Core Set is Advanced, then reminder text is okay and I was remembering wrong...

Yeah, having Core in both monikers is too annoying. Caused for an interesting flame to my latest PoD article (which was three or so weeks ago).

I think they would've used "Starter Game" and "Core Set" but the word starter had a negative connotation after the horrid Starter Set back around 6E.

To your question: Yes and no. The cards in the Core Game are considered part of the Core Set for purposes of collecting and lists and such. However, thanks (perhaps) to my ranting, and letter writing on part of the community, the worst of the worst (Eager Cadet, Vizzerdrix, etc) are contained only in the Core Game and will never be opened in a pack of the Core Set. So, in order to get a true complete set of the Core Set, one much purchase the $13 Core Game (or buy the cards online for one cent a pop...*bah-dum-dum-CRASH*)

Actually...

$6 a pop at Star City. If the Morons don't do their reseach... they get hit with a hard price for getting a set. So it goes.

Also, Sef-- didn't see the link to your article on the front page-- did you forget to send it in to Spidy again?
