This may take some coordination to handle, and it could go madly out of hand, but if it works the way it's supposed to, it could really help things here.
Each person to post here must observe a moment of silence. Each person is strongly encouraged as well to state (in parentheses, of course, to maintain the notion of silence) some reason for observing a moment of silence that is unique. If you can't think of any, that's not a problem. Try not to edit posts, though.
Each person is encouraged to post here multiple times for different issues. (Because this thread is in Off-Topic, we don't have to worry about people posting here to keep their post counts up.)
These don't need to have anything to do with recent events. They can be about any events - past, present, or near future. I only ask that people not post absolutely trivial things here.
Try to make the events you choose specific; e.g., don't choose "the people who died in World War II" as a theme, because it's way too broad. The more of these issues, the better, so don't take away whole categories with one fell swoop unless it seems appropriate.
Please don't specify which events you are observing other than any you may be introducing; that might lend itself to annoyance on the parts of some whose events might not be observed. If for some reason you have a serious problem with one of the issues, PM someone to talk about it.
I hope for this thread to be in use for months, as opposed to a week or so. So if you think of anything, please don't hesitate to make it clear.
Personal events are absolutely fine too.
Turn off your sigs.
And now, to begin:
In rememberance of the people who died during the collapse of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, let us observe a moment of silence.
