The Trash I Read

This is a rant. I'm sick and tired of reading everyone's anal-cyst of the same thing. Let's take an example, shall we?

For today's viewing, here is "You're Grounded" by JJ Stors:

http://www.brainburst.com/strategy/type2/judgment/020801.asp

Done reading? Good. Here's comes the rant.

Congratulations. You figured out how to play Hunting Grounds. You seem competent enough to play the spells in it by 'tapping' your lands for mana. Wait, I mean you are able to play Hunting Grounds after Hsia did all the work making the deck for you.

Give the guy some credit! He smashed with a rogue deck! Now you're gonna critique it like you know something. I know what spells do. I also know its quite a crowd pleaser to hardcast Phantom Nishoba on an empty board for the win, but Hsia did that.

Maybe you're doing me a favor by quoting Repulse. Maybe you think I admire how you've copied this deck to win FNM for three weeks. Maybe I should be admiring your ability to state the obvious. Maybe you thing I'm retarded.

No. I'm sorry. All I can admire is your inability to entertain me.

I don't subscribe to Brainburst, but I'm glad that I was able to access this article for free, and more importantly that no one is paying to read this stuff.

I think the article would have been better if the guy who wrote it had just provided a link to the deck and said "I don't like blue as much as white or green."

I really didn't like that article very much. I was really annoyed by the fact that he put up those fancy graphics about what each card does. Like none of us know what Repulse or Genesis do.

I also wonder why he had to put those charts showing the breakdown of each type of card in the deck. I can see why you might need the ACC, but cards by type?! "Hey, look, the deck is 13% sorceries!" Who cares?!

That's all.

Actually, I didn't. At least not off the top of my head :)

And maybe it was Brainburst's editor who put all that graph stuff in there (or maybe not). Just trying not to be so down on the guy...

While I know what the cards do, I agree with Spidey about the editor. Brainburst sells cards, right? Notice that the price is listed along with everything else. I suspect that it isn't the author putting it in for clarification so much as the editor putting it in for marketing.

Well... I didn't hate the article all that much, and I can forgive the marketing graphics -- they add some color and break up the article a bit. Since I don't subscribe (yet) to the premium service, then I have to look at ads in the articles; it's the way of the 'net.

This is one of the decks we're testing (and testing against) locally and it is fun fun fun to play, though kind of annoying to play against.

First of all I would like to say this is the best e-surfer magic site I have found...

Though I don't know what GMT(time this site goes by) is, looking at the input shared by everyone and the help given to questions by members is really inspiring for some of us who are tired of the pay to read this crap in which the author is so good that they always make top blah... and never win it all...

If there is a way to beat out those subscribe sites, I think you all have it nailed...

All that needs to be done is the word spread to other magic players...

You have built it,

They will come.

GMT stands for Greenwich Mean Time. It's the current time at longitude 0, right in the town of Greenwich, England.

From Yahoo! Reference:
Former name for mean solar time of the longitude (0°) of the former Royal Observatory at Greenwich, England, or Greenwich meridian. GMT was used to avoid potentially confusing references to local time systems (zones). In accord with tradition, 0000 GMT (denoting the start of a solar day) occurred at noon. In 1925 the numbering system for GMT was changed so that the day (like the civil day) began at midnight. Some confusion resulted, and in 1928 the International Astronomical Union changed the designation of the standard time of the zero meridian to Universal Time, which remains in general use. The term GMT is still used for some purposes (incl. navigation) in English-speaking countries.

And as for the ads, I am extremely annoyed by them. It's one thing to post a reference to what a particular card does; it's another thing to put their price in the reference. Would you guys want me to post the approximate values of the cards I put in my decks? I can understand that they want to sell cards, but do they really think that the people who read this will say, "Ohh, I want to copy this deck! Look, I can buy the cards right here! I don't even have to leave my computer and go down to the local game store which is probably hanging on by a thread because of the Internet!" Are humans that lazy?

EDIT: Warning: rant approaching. More about the ads. I am extremely annoyed by sites that put ads in the middle of the articles. I can't stand reading through an article and then suddenly seeing this huge ad banner for some useless product that nobody will ever need. Another thing that annoys me is when they have these pop-up ads that appear right in front of the article text, completely disrupting my reading. Again, the ads are for some stupid product that I will never buy or for some stupid trash movie that I will never see. I hate those pop-up ads that just appear and play annoying rap music advertising some stupid movie that only appeals to people who like potty humor and you can't find the stupid Close button to make the stupid music stop playing because the window was designed like crap. Arrgghhh!!!!

That's just my opinion.

No, I agree about the ads popping up in the middle of articles. I have had that done to me on non-Magic sites.

The stuff from the link isn't too bad; it makes the articles longer and "weirdly formatted" since the text has to go around the pictures, but I tend to ignore that kind of stuff since it's still readable. Pop-up ads that make it unreadable just stink.

Thanks for the GMT info... and yes pop-ups suck unless they guarantee you a trip to a premier event, and I haven't seen many of those...
