The first time in nearly three months!
First of all, I was attempting to explore other decks. If any of you remotely know me, you know that I am a big fan of U/W Control (T2) and anything with Tradewind Rider (1.x) in it (like TS). So I pick Three-Deuce, I figured since I finally have 4x Cursed Scrolls and most of the other stuff needed, I would give it a go (afterall, I really think I needed a break from Blue for a while
)
Three-Deuce is hard to play when you DO have all the correct components let alone having a slightly 'sub-par' version, here's the list that I played:
4x Cursed Scrolls
4x Mogg Fanatic
4x Incinerate
2x Dwarven Miner
4x Granger Guildmage
4x Rancor
4x River Boa
4x Birds of Paradise
3x Swords to Plowshares
3x Wax/Wane
4x Skyshroud Elite
4x Wasteland
3x Treetop Village
2x Grassland
2x Mountain Valley
4x Mountain
1x Plains
5x Forest
SB: Pyroblast/Emerald Charm/Disenchant/other random stuff.
Round 1: Three-Deuce vs. Fires (T2 version)
Game 1
My opponent goes to many qualifiers and is an exceptional player, however, I HAVE beaten him before. I disrupt his game plan right from the get-go, I fanatic his Llanowar and Wasteland his Karplusan Forest
. I start getting out a Scroll, a Granger and several turns later, a Treetop Village. I am starting to hammer him down when all of a sudden he 'geddons (zoiks!), he has two Chemeric Idols in play four turns later and I now have to either take damage from the Idols or chump block, I take the damage for several turns and I am seriously mana screwed (Dual Lands would be helpful right about now since I have the wrong color out). Anyway, I use up all of my resources and he beats me silly with the Idols.
Game 2
Game 1 took a long time so I have to rush game two if I want to draw, to make a short game story even shorter, I get him down to 1 life on the fifth turn of the "Five Turn Rule" and lose because time and turns ran out.

Round 2 Three-Deuce vs. Elf Ball (w/o the Ball)
Game 1
He explodes with an incredible start and has many elves out by his fourth turn, not to mention that he has out a Skyshroud Poacher. I eventually lose to a swarm with Forestwalk (The new Lord Elf).
Game 2
Nothing in my sideboard is prepared for this deck. I lose to another swarm
Me not used to losing so much

Round 3 Three-Deuce vs. 4-color Recurring X
Game 1
Why am I even playing? For practice, I tell myself.
I manage to disrupt him in the early game but he eventually gets the Recurring Nightmare/Deranged Hermit engine going and I lose.
Game 2
WOW! I get out an early Rancor'd River Boa and kill him within 5 turns (he was seriously mana screwed).
Now THAT's how my deck could work!
Game 3
Nearly the same as Game 1. I lose the match and my confidence
.

The Good and the Bad:
The Good: Humility can be a good lesson to endure. I was put right back in the place where I used to be, I had forgotten what it felt like. I used to always be there, alot!
Taking a break from Blue was refreshing, even though I lost badly without it (HA!, sometimes I lose badly WITH it!
). I'm going to stick with Three-Deuce for a while which means I need to start working on getting those Dual Lands (I know PT Extended is over, but I like Extended anyways
)
The Bad: The Evil Shop Guru is STILL up to his old antics of coaching my opponent's, but last night I got obnoxiously loud about it during the match and folks walked over to see what was going on, he moved on and I didn't hear a peep from him all night (Nor he or his cronies were playing this night
).
Next Week: Back to Type 2 and one of my students is comming to give his first try at tourney magic, yipee!
