yeah that's right, just dished out 100 bucks on a mox jet. a REAL mox jet, straight from a VERY RESPECTIBLE dealer (buddy of mine won it from dan bock a month ago at chicago's t2).

those of you who don't know dan bock, in 2001, he won a trip to tokyo to play MTG and he played an all lands deck, hence eliminating himself from the tournament, and proceeded to stay at tokyo, free of charge... smart man he is.

Nice idea he had there...

But if the odds are stacked too much against you, you either give up or find a way to win. Cheating is a great example of finding a way to win, although I don't condone it at an M:TG tourney of any kind (but I do condone it at the casual level. Ever played cheaters rules magic? I'd love to tell, but surely cannot).

Hey, isn't it true that if you write a ruling on a card and get Mr. Garfield to sign off on it you'll actually be able to use it as a real ruling?

Eh... bugger, nvm. Odd idea crept into my mind as I transcribed this boring post.

good score 13nova....However, if you think about it the mox only cost what? 1 cent to print up...kinda takes the luster out of it.

Well yeah, but I would think he'd want to try to do well in the tourney and then sightsee if he got knocked out. I mean, if you're playing an all-land deck, why not just drop out when you get there (rating implications aside)?

i think the DCI penalizes you if u don't play at least 2 matches before dropping.

I was thinking there was something along those lines where he had to play a little...

But it still begs the question of why did he give up from the get-go and not even try with a deck? Unless there was ante and he figured he had no way of winning anyway... :)

"Ugh, again..."
"Great, again..."
"Wow, I've never had to Paris down to three before..."

And then second round play only one of your land types or something and pretend that you're color-screwed...

Course if they are very perceptive or use a Duress or Jester's Cap, etc. then the joke is up. But otherwise, they just might think you had really bad luck, until you throw your deck at them after the match...

I've done it...

But not in a tournament...

Still, unless he really wanted to use the tourney time for sightseeing time instead, it seems to me that a try would have been in order... oh well.

But it would be almost worth the look on the opponent's face in some cases...

It never hurts to try... or win...

Still the trip seems worht it in a lot of Magic player's eyes...;)
