The Neverending Story

I rented this classic 80's movie for my 2 and 5 year old, they loved it! I had forgotten about it until I was searching for a non-Disney movie (which is what we typically get, they get boring sometimes) and I ran across this movie, I also got Merlin, Jamunji and a Blue's Clues short for the little one.
Since I've been pigioned-hole for being an 80's kind of Guy, I was remembering the tune of the same name by Gerogio Morodo <sp?> and remember dancing to it at a local Discotechque back in '85 (man, I'm old :()
Good flick for those of you with children and want to expose them to "Thinking outside of the Box" type movies.
The Matrix is another one I would recommend, but only if your kids are older, like 17 :) (Man, Trinity is cool :))

My wife LOVES this movie!

In fact, we're mulling over naming one of our kids Atreju.

We also have the soundtrack, I believe it's by Kajamundo, but I'll double-check tonight. It's the same people who do "Too Shy" but might have been under a different name.

Do you know the name Sebastian yells out at the end? It's lost in the storm...

While you're in the mood for 80's fantasy for the kiddies, why not Labrynth (it's got musical numbers!) or Ledgend (if the kids are a little older, the bog hag is scarry, but the sceenery is buetiful)

Of course there is the ever popular Dark Crystal, but I personally like the above two movies more.

This one is not necessarily a childrens film but it does qualify as an 80's film. "Big Trouble in Little China". I watch that and I want to go out and play Shadowfist. It is a pretty silly movie but I like it. Another good strange movie is "Time Bandits" very good and very out of the box thinking.

Has anybody seen the sequel? It sucks. The third one sucks, too. The first one kicked @$$.

How about Weird Science?...Noo, its not for kids, but that use to be my favourtite movie, for, well, about a year...Then I went back to my timeless fav, Gone With the Wind...

I saw the Nev. Ending Story when I was yuounger and I didn't like it...Probably because the special effects were cheesy...And the Labrynth was just freaky...It was like David Bowie had a thing for that girl when he sings trhat voodoo in the youdoo song...

this is metamorphasing from 80's fantasy to just plain 80's... not that it's a bad thing.. :)

I did hear the sequels to NeverEnding Story were not too good. Haven't seen them though.

My all-around favorite 80's flick is probably Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

That was a cool flick, too.
Spiderman: I think the group was KajaGooGoo and their producer for one of their albums was Nick Rhodes (the freaky synth player from Duran Duran), and I know for a fact that it was recorded on Capitol Records (maybe).
Other useless, non-topic related 80's info:
DuranDuran split up and formed two seprate groups; Power Station ("Some Like It Hot") and Arcadia ("Election Day").
How about "Pretty in Pink" the movie? Remeber The title cut recorded by The Psychedelic Furs?
Simple Minds did "(Don't You), Forget About Me" for the movie Breakfast Club.
"Back In Time" by Huey Lewis and the News was from the "Back to the Future" movie. Did you know that when Marty McFly was auditioning with his band "The Pinheads" in the High School auditorium, that Huey Lewis had a cameo as one of the judges for the talent show?
In a Big Country by the group of the same name.........................<YJ is in his "Happy Place" now>...............

when I saw Never-Ending Story in first grade or something, I still remember thinking of it as one of the stupidest movies I have seen. My simple brain was too simple to know what a big dog was doing there! However, my best friend loved that movie.

All I remember is the big dog and some kids were in an alley or something, so I should probably see it again before saying it sucks. :)

Neverending Story can't possible be the stupidest movie you ever saw, have you seen Plan 9 From Outer Space. It is the worst movie ever made.

I used to watch Neverending Story all the time.

Plan Nine From Outer Space was a cool movie! Who can't like people bumping into backgrounds and two different actors playing the same character! And that limousine makes 3 days pass in 15 minutes!

Neverending Story is an old favorite of mine as well... :) I always liked the idea behind the Nothing. (Metaphysical theory and psychology have always been my thing.)

[me]lapses into MST3K withdrawal[/me]

Why oh why did they quit doing the greatest show in the history of anything? (sigh) Saturdays just are no good any more due to my lack of 'laugh out loud' funny comedy...

So many tremendously half-arsed movies they never flayed, so many opportunities missed...

Does anyone know where I might get copies of the episodes? (download or video)

I liked that movie, but the second one sucked hard. Wasn't there a third direct-to-video one as well?

Anyhow, read the book, if you can find it. The original printings were done in green-and-red type, so you'd know whether what you were reading was in this world or the other. It also tied into the plot, in a way.

The book's story continues well past the ending of the first movie (part 2 as far as I could tell was just made up).

The group you're trying to remember is Kajagoogoo, but they didn't do that song. It was another artist (group?) called Limahl.

That was it!

Although I think Kajagoogoo and Limahl were basically the same people (or had the same core people or whatever).
